JoJo’s Bizarre Adventurehas gained a lot of popularity in recent years thanks to its anime adaptation, which introduced the world to the Joestar family and the power of Stands.JoJois particularly well-known for its cast of idiosyncratic characters, from hard-boiled cool characters like Jotaro Kujo, tomore eccentric personalities like Rohan Kishibe.

Even with such an array of colorful characters, there are still some that don’t really get to shine the way other characters do. These characters aren’t necessarily bad; they just aren’t given the time they need to really show their full potential. They could be great, but lacked the time to really develop. Here are a fewJoJocharacters who deserved to be utilized more.

10Panacotta Fugo

Fugo is part of Bruno Bucciarati’s squad, and accompanies him and Giorno on their task to escort Trish Una. He helps the squad up until they realize that their boss Diavolo is trying to kill his daughter. When they all decide to betray him to protect Trish, Fugo is the only who backs out.

Because of this, he never reappears during the final half ofGolden Wind, and his stand is almost never used either. Compared to the other members of Bucciarati’s squad, Fugo gets the least amount of time to show what he’s really about.

9Gwess

Gwess is Jolyne’s cell mate, and one of the first enemies that she has to deal with. After messing with Jolyne using the power of her stand Goo Goo Dolls, Gwess is soon beaten into submission and becomes Jolyne’s lackey.

Despite being in close proximity to Jolyne, Gwess doesn’t have much of an impact on the story after that. Considering she’s Jolyne’s cell mate, she seems like an easy choice for one of Jolyne’s allies. It seems like a missed opportunity, although it might be because of her stand ability that she’s not used as much.

8Straizo

Straizo appears in the very first part ofJoJo,Phantom Blood. He serves as an ally to Jonathan Joestar during the final fight against Dio and his minions, but during Part 2, he becomes entranced by the power of the vampires and becomes one himself. He is quickly killed by Joseph Joestar.

Straizo’s betrayal is poignant, but it is not especially emotional since the audience only gets a little time to know Straizo. If Straizo was a more significant ally in Part 1, it might have made his betrayal in Part 2 hurt all the more.

7Diavolo

Diavolo is the boss of the gang Passione, as well as the main antagonist of Part 5, opposing Giorno and his allies. His stand King Crimson is one of the most powerful Stands seen in the series, with the ability to both predict the future and erase time.

Despite all this, Diavolo is one of the least impressive antagonists in JoJo. His motivations are pretty basic, and he’s not as intimidating asprior villains like Dio and Yoshikage Kira. The most interesting thing about Diavolo is his stand, and that doesn’t say a lot about his character. Had the show explored his character more, he could have been much more interesting.

6Will A. Zeppeli

Zeppeli does a lot in Part 1. He serves as Jonathan’s introduction to the Ripple, and is an integral ally in the fight against Dio. Unfortunately, he ends up dying before he can actually face Dio, and his death has a profound effect on Jonathan.

Still, Zeppeli’s actual presence in the story is quite small. He only appears in four episodes throughout the entire series (seventeen chapters in the manga). While he has a significant role, he doesn’t really manage to establish the presence necessary to make his death truly impactful.

5Yukako Yamagishi

In the early parts ofJoJo, female fighters and Stand users were pretty rare. Yukako Yamagishi might not be the first female Stand User, but she was the first female Stand User that could be counted as an ally.

That’s why it’s a little disappointing to see her relegated to a relatively small role duringDiamond is Unbreakable. While she does appear in a couple arcs, she doesn’t contribute much to the overall plot of Part 4 as a whole. It’s a shame that she doesn’t show up more often, especially since her Stand ability is quite interesting.

4Trish Una

The daughter of Diavolo, the boss of Passione, is one of the central characters in Part 5. Diavolo wants to kill her to get rid of any connections that might lead back to him, and Giorno and his allies decide to protect her from his attacks.

Unfortunately, Trish herself does not do as much compared to everyone else. For a large majority of the story, she is merely someone that Giorno and Bucciarati have to protect. Even when she manages to get her own Stand, she still only manages to participate in a few battles.

3Erina Joestar

Erina Joestar, nee Pendleton,is the wife of Jonathan Joestarand one of the oldest members of the Joestar line. Despite this, she has a very small role in the overall story, and only makes a few appearances here and there.

As the matriarch of the Joestar family, Erina may not be much of a fighter, but she still has some influence, especially thanks to her connections to the Speedwagon Foundation. Even if she isn’t a part of the fighting, Erina could still play a supporting role in the plot — but hasn’t appeared nearly as much as she should.

2Shizuka Joestar

DuringDiamond is Unbreakable, an elderly Joseph Joestar and Josuke Higashikata discover a strange baby that turned out to be a Stand user. She has the power to turn invisible, which causes a lot of trouble for the two of them. Unable to find her real parents, Joseph decides to adopt her, and names her Shizuka Joestar.

Despite being an adopted child of the Joestar family, Shizuka plays absolutely no role in the plot. Even in later parts, when she would most certainly have grown up, Shizuka is nowhere to be seen. It seems unfortunate, since a character like her with a Stand like hers would be interesting to see.

1Giorno Giovanna

Giorno Giovanna is one of the most powerful characters inJoJo. Gold Experience Requiemis an absurdly powerful Standthat has the power to put its targets in a time loop, making any possible threat inconsequential.

Despite this (or maybe because of it), Giorno doesn’t really play much of a role, even in his own part. This is in part because Giorno’s motivations aren’t all that clear, compared to Bucciarati, who feels much more like a protagonist than Giorno does. Even in Part 6, which introduces a number of Dio’s sons, Giorno never appears. Out of all the protagonists inJoJo, Giorno is probably the least established.
