There’s good news for fans waiting to see Joaquin Phoenix return as the iconic Clown Prince of Crime inJoker: Folie à Deux. Director Todd Phillips has confirmed that filming for the upcoming film has wrapped and along with the announcement, he offered fans a closer look at both Phoenix and Lady Gaga’s lead characters.Joker: Folie à Deuxis the sequel to the 2019Jokerand has been filming in New York City for a few months.Behind-the-scenes images from the sets ofJoker 2have been shared before that offered a look at Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn and Phillips’ new images put her front and center in front of the camera. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer,” read the caption. The two people he refers to are Phoenix and Gaga. “Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together,” he continued, which confirms that the film’s editing is the next step. It remains to be seen how long this phase will take and when fans will be able to see thefirst look of Gaga in action as Quinn.
Gaga also took to Twitter and revealed that she had finished filming her scenes, and revealed the same image. Other actors have portrayed the role of Quinn in previously released films, but Philipps’ vision is quite unique. Gaga’s look is more rugged thanMargot Robbie’s portrayal of the characterinThe Suicide SquadorHarley Quinn: Birds of Prey. While Robbie’s Quinn always had perfect makeup on with the iconic pigtails, Gaga’s version of the character has short, messy, blonde hair with makeup running down her face, as she dons a fuzzy black jacket.
Jokerwas successful at the box officeand shattered expectations by earning over $1 billion globally. Phoenix even won an Oscar for his performance as the main character, which has led to grown interest in the upcoming sequel. In Philipps’ post, an image of Phoenix brings back the iconic character to the forefront, with fans now expecting his work to be even more impressive than his last stint.
