Summary
In a world full of insanely powerful abilities and overpowered characters that have the power to completely obliterate whatever they want, it is quite strange to think how someone without any powers can change the course of fate for almost every single character in the setting. However, that is precisely what we get withToji Fushiguro, a fan-favorite character inJujutsu Kaisenwho was born without even a drop of cursed energy within him, making it so he had no inherent cursed technique.
However, Toji is largely considered to be one of the strongest and most capable members of the cast and despite only appearing in a very short arc of the story, he quickly became a beloved character. Toji can be credited as being linked to some of the mostimportant and pivotal momentsin the series that changed the entire outlook of how the story was originally going to play out in one way or another and can even be seen as the reason why many characters arcs developed in the ways that they did. So, let’s take a look at how Toji changed the entire Jujutsu world!

Backstory
Toji was originally born into the infamous Zenin clan, one of the 3 main sorcerer families in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. This clan is famous around the world for harboring some of the strongest Jujutsu users and has many powerful cursed techniques passed down through the centuries, such asMegumi’s Ten Shadows. However, Toji was a character born with a Heavenly Restriction, which meant that he didn’t even have a drop of cursed energy within him but was instead gifted with superhuman physical prowess.
Since cursed abilities and energy are things that the Zenin family places above everything else, Toji was always treated like trash and was made to train even harder against curses, honing his skills to unprecedented levels. However,he eventually left the Zenin clanand started a life as a hit man further bolstering his skills and abilities until he fell in love with Megumi’s mother and chose to leave that life behind. However, after her death, Toji felt himself falling back into old ways, leading to him abandoning Megumi. This is where the story introduces him to the story of the Hidden Inventory arc.
Defeating the Strongest
Toji has an impact on the future of the series not only because of how much stronger Gojo and Geto became because of it but also because he played a big role in who they became later on. To briefly recap the events of the Hidden Inventory arc, we saw Gojo and Geto as best friends who had completely opposing views on the role of sorcerers in society and protecting the weak. As the arc started with young versions of them, we saw Gojo with a far weaker version of his Limitless technique which saw him only able to use Lapse Blue and without anyReverse Cursed Technique, and his opinion on the issue was that he did not care for the weak or non-sorcerers.
This view was utterly contrasted by his best friend, Geto, who thought that Jujutsu Sorcerers existed solely to protect non-sorcerers who had no sorcery abilities of their own. This sentiment of the role of protecting non-sorcerers was a big part of the arc and played a huge role with Riko Amanai, who was to bedelivered to Master Tengenas the Star Plasma Vessel by both Gojo and Geto. Throughout their time with Riko and Kuroi, we see both Special Grade sorcerers become really attached to them and we see Gojo finally start to sympathize with the fact that someone far weaker than him has value in the world as well.
This all comes to a head during the later part of the arc when Gojo starts his battle with Toji. Despite being classed as the strongest along with Geto, Gojo is completely outclassed by Toji and is even seemingly killed by him and hisvast arsenal of cursed tools. Then, just as Geto tells Riko that she can live her life and refuse to become the Star Plasma Vessel, Toji shoots her in the head. An enraged Geto releases his strongest curses to defeat him but meets a similar fate as Gojo by losing at the hands of Toji.
Now, the way that this is very significant for the world ofJujutsu Kaisenis because when he was pushed to the brink of death, Gojo was then able to learn Technique Reversal Red and his Reversed Curse Technique, healing him from all of his wounds and allowing him to reach enlightenment. What this did was it allowed Gojo to become the unequaled strongest sorcerer in the entire world and unlocked his ultimate move, the Hollow Purple which put him on a level even Geto andother Special Grade sorcererscould not reach. Gojo’s newfound strength created a rift between him and pretty much everyone else, especially Geto.

Killing of the Star Plasma Vessel
Toji’s killing of Riko Amanai was an event that started a domino effect on the character arcs of Gojo and Geto. Where Gojo was a character that initially hated weakness and didn’t care for non-sorcerers, he eventually became close with Riko. Upon her death, Gojo came to realize that despite their lack of strength, the weak are worth protecting andbeing a sorcerermeans that it is his inherent duty to protect those who need it. This was also a great moment for him as it made him realize the importance of having people around him to foster their strength, as can be seen by all of his students within the current setting ofJujutsu Kaisen. He knew that someone of his power could either be stuck in isolation or build up allies that would help the world just as he has.
Riko’s death had the opposite effect on Geto however. As Toji pointed out in their fight, he was a monkey with no cursed energy but Geto still lost to him despite his massive amounts of curses and power. This led Geto to question his limitations, as well as further isolating himself even from his best friend Gojo as he realized thatGojo was the strongestand no one could reach him. Just like Gojo, he also grew very close to Riko and Kuroi and initially started in the series as someone who believed that it was the duty of every sorcerer to protect the weak, no matter what. However, after Toji killed Riko, Geto started his arc where he started to become disillusioned with the Jujutsu society and those he deemed as weak. Geto started to feel that if Riko wasn’t so weak, she could have protected herself and not needed to rely on him or Gojo. This view made Geto start to detest the weak andthose who couldn’t use cursed energy.
Due to Toji’s interference within the story, Geto and Gojo both had their character arcs converge at one point, perfectly setting up the future of where the story was going fortheir eventual face-off inJujutsu Kaisen 0.In a very poetic way, Toji was the reason that the Special Grade sorcerers had a shift in their thinking, as well as being the first known link that allowed Kenjaku to take control of Geto’s body after his death, perfectly setting up all the events of where the story ofJujutsu Kaisenis right now. Though he had no Jujutsu powers, very few characters can be seen to have made as much of an impact as Toji Fushiguro.
