Jurassic Parkstar BD Wong opened up about his role as Dr. Henry Wu and how the character’s fate was handled. Evidently, Wong was bitter towards the original 1993 film for many years before the sequel trilogy.
Speaking with AV Club, Wong gave insight into his character Dr. Wu. He shared that he felt his character inJurassic Parkwas handled poorly until he reappeared as the scientist in a more significant role in 2015’sJurassic World, 2018’sJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and soon once more in the upcomingJurassic World: Dominion.

Wong explained, “They didn’t care about [Wu], they don’t even explain what happened to him at the end of the movie when everyone’s evacuating the island! Clearly, he was not a priority for anyone. And I was very bitter about that for many years. But my good friend Nathan once said to me, ‘Oh, well, you don’t have to worry about that, because that’s going to come back to you. You’ll see. They’ll come back to you.'” Wong adds, “And I was, like, ‘I don’t see how that’s ever going to come back to me.’ I really could not see what he saw.” Wong mentioned howthe two Jurassic Parksequelsthat would follow,The Lost World: Jurassic ParkandJurassic Park 3,still didn’t feel as if they were related to the 1993 blockbuster classic. When it was announced the series would be revamped with a new sequel trilogy that had Colin Trevorrow in the directing chair, Wong saw the opportunity. “And in their looking for loose ends, Colin Trevorrow remembered this character who played a huge part in the book, had a huge death in the book, and allowed him to be reinvestigated,” Wong recalls. “It was perfect, because he needed someone who hadn’t died to be a touchstone to and a bridge from the original movie, someone who would really actually have been there.”
Trevorrow bringing back this character allowed Wong to be able to explore different aspects of Dr. Wu that created a more memorable experience for the actor. Picking up 23 years later, it presented an exciting challenge for Wong to really get in touch with Wu and learn how he has changed throughout the years, and how the events of the first film have impacted him. On top of discussing his character, Wong gaveinsight into the upcomingJurassic World: Dominion, believing it to be even more epic than the previous two installments. “From what I gather, they let [Trevorrow] make the movie that he wanted to make, which is really chock full of good old-fashioned storytelling, amazing effects, and a resolution for all of the characters in the story,” he said.
Jurassic World: Dominionis set to conclude the entire series. Along with Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing, classic characters will be making their return to the big screen. Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern’s Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm will all be returning for the highly anticipated sequel. Other than the exciting blend of old and new characters, the film picks up where the last one left off, withtheJurassic Parkdinos roaming freein the wilderness and other urban areas.
Ahead ofF9’s IMAX release back in June, fans got to seean exclusive 5-minute preview ofJurassic World: Dominionthat takes place during the Cretaceous period 65 million years ago. The footage presents the dinos ruling the planet, so it’s evident that fans can expect Trevorrow to really dive deep into the history of the dinos and their origin.
