In a recent announcement, Konami has revealed that they will be shutting down multiplayer social deduction gameCrimeSight. WhileKonamiseems to have recently been returning to typical game production, the announcement to shut down the servers was quite sudden.A competitive mystery game,CrimeSighttook place in London during the year 2075, when technology was available to predict future crimes, somewhat similar toMinority Report. The game was somewhat of an enigma whenKonami randomly revealedCrimeSightin 2021. Then released on Steam for Microsoft Windows on July 24, 2025, but despite its intriguing premise,CrimeSightdid not sell well.RELATED:New Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel Battle Pass Features Classic Anime Monster as MateKonami has now announced via Steam and theCrimeSightTwitter account that the game’s service will be terminated July 16, 2025. One commenter on Twitter pointed out that the game was only able to last for one year and one month, expressing their disappointment that there will not be a chance to host private games. Other commenters expressed similar thoughts that the game itself was truly enjoyable and had a unique premise. Many games in the past have been able to overcome initial poor sales, but for an online game it is essential that the players keep active. Even games that sold better such asMarvel’s Avengerscould not avoid shutting downwhen faced with waning player interaction.

CrimeSightdidn’t sell well, but it was an indicator that Konami was prepared to take risks with new ideas. With a history of games going as far back as 1977, Konami has been a big name in the industry for a long time. But as new IPs or new installments of their flagship titles started to reduce in the early 2010s, fans’ opinions of the company grew more suspicious, especially as the focus seemed to shift toward a focus onKonami pachinko machines. From a western perspective, the decision seems completely bizarre, however in Konami’s home country of Japan, pachinko is a massive industry.

Luckily for fans of Konami’s classic IPs, it seems as though the focus is returning to game production. With Konami observing the resurgence of popularity inResident Evilsince the very successfulResident Evil 2remake, Konami seems to have realized the potential in its wealth of properties. The proof that fans are eager for this return can be seen in cases such as theSilent Hill 2limited edition vinyl selling out in under 2 minutes.

While fans are happy to see franchises such asSilent Hillbeing returned to, and evenrumors of a majorMetal Gearreveal, it is still a shame to seeCrimeSightgo criminally overlooked. While the game didn’t garner a huge player base, it is clear to see in the game’s design that it was well crafted, and from the voice of the few players that it was a truly entertaining release.

CrimeSightis available on PC, its servers will be terminated July 08, 2025.
