Summary

The fantasy world ofThe Lord of the Ringsfeatures many powerful characters both the side of good and evil. Many fans of Tolkiens' works are familiar with some of the most powerful people in Middle-Earth as they have seen them in the movies or read about them in books. However, there have beenmany video games set in this universe over the years.

Some of theseLord of the Ringsgames follow the plot of the movies and books, while others include brand-new stories with unique characters. Some of these characters can also sometimes be just as powerful as those created by Tolkien himself.

Shadow of Mordor Ratbag

An orc is possibly one of the last creatures that would come to mind when thinking of powerful characters in Middle-Earth. However, Ratbag’s power does not come from combat skills or magical powers. Instead, this character fromShadow of Mordorgets his power from the information he can provide the player.

During the main story, Ratbag is saved by Talion after the orc is captured for being a traitor to The Black Hand of Sauron. In return for Talion’s help, the orc consistently offers the player key informationto help take down the group of soldiers gathering in Mordor. As a result, succeeding in the game would be impossible without Ratbag’s wealth of behind-the-scenes knowledge, as knowledge is indeed power.

LOTR War in the North Elladin and Elrohir

The twin sons of Elrond, Elladan, and Elrohir, are not unique characters in theWar in the Northvideo game. These two elves are mentioned in the books but do not get much character development, and theywere completely omitted from the movies. Therefore, it was great to see these two get a spotlight moment in this game.

In a story that takes place at the same time as the events in The Lord of the Rings,War in the Northsees a trio of an elf, a dwarf, and a man trying to fight one of Sauron’s servants as they try to establish a fortress in the northern part of Middle Earth. The main characters are helped by many allies on their journey, but few are as powerful as Elladan and Elrohir. These twins are the heirs to the land of Rivendell, and so are highly skilled in combat and magic to help protect their realm from all kinds of evil in Middle-Earth.

LOTR The Third Age

The Third Ageis an RPG set in Middle Earth, and its story runs parallel to that of the characters ofThe Lord of the Rings. The player takes control of a Gondorian man, named Berethor, as he travels across Middle Earth assembling a team who end up helpingfight in the War of the Ring. The first companion that Berethor encounters in the game is an elf woman, called Idrial, and she is a powerful mage that players can use in the turn-based combat of the game.

Idrial is almost a must-include character for the game. Her powerful attacks are great for small encounters with orcs, but her ability to use healing magic is essential when it comes to big boss fights, like the one against the Balrog in Moria.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North

The giant eagles in Middle Earth are well-known to most fans of the fantasy realm created by Tolkien, as they have a big part to play in bothThe Hobbitand Lord of the Rings. In War in the North, the player characters will encounter one of these great eagles when they rescue them from a group of goblins.

To thank the good players for their help, this great eagle, Beleram, aids the players in their attempt to rid the north of Sauron’s armies. Beleram is not only a powerful creature who can take out engines with his bare talons, but he is also wise, offering the player plenty of information about Middle Earth, and the movements of the enemy.

talion using dominating hand on an orc

Talion is the main protagonist of the hugely successfulShadow of MordorandShadow of Wargames. Starting out as a ranger of Gondor,Talion is sadly killed by Sauron’s forceswhen he is posted to Mordor’s Black Gate. Fortunately, Talion is revived by the wraith spirit of Celebrimbor, and together they fight to take over Mordor and its forces to thwart Sauron’s Black Hand.

Talion is already a great warrior in his own right, and so he has no trouble defeating the hordes of orcs on his journey. However, the additional presence of Celebrimbor also makes him powerful with a bow, and it gives him the ability to move within the world of the wraiths. This additional power gives Talion the ability to traverse and fight unlike anyone else in Mordor.

LOTR War in the North Agandaur

1Agandaur

Lord of the Rings: War In The North

Agandaur is the main villain and final boss ofWar in the North, and he more than earns that role. As a Black Numenorean, this evil sorcerer is one of Sauron’s most loyal lieutenants, which is why he is tasked with retakingAngmar and the rest of the northern kingdomsduring the War of the Ring.

Players will find that Agandaur’s combat skills and magical abilities already make him a powerful enemy. However, it is his way of rallying the orcs and other servants of Sauron that makes this character a real threat. It is only due to Frodo destroying the One Ring in time that sees Agandaur finally vanish from Middle Earth at the end of the game.
