One of the very first issues that regularly comes up at the start of a campaign inManor Lordsis the lack of food for settlers. And asburgage plot levels progress, simply having enough food to survive is no longer enough. Providing more than two food types to anevergrowing populationbecomes a persistent issue.
Knowing all possible food types and how to make them locally is hugely helpful, especially when trying to build a self-sustaining community. Here, players can shore up their knowledge about all things food-related.
Trapping (Optional)
Advanced Skinning (Optional)
Placing a Hunting Camp near wooded areas inhabited by wild animals provides a steady supply of hides and meat. Removing the trees near naturally occurring animal habitats will trigger a migration. TheTrapping development pointallows hunters to set up traps in the forest, providing a passive meat yield. Advanced Skinning directly doubles the meat yield for each hunted animal.

Vegetable Gardens are the quickest way to provide settlers with additional food sources. They start production quickly, allowing the family to take the goods to market within a year. The amount of vegetables harvested depends on the unit size of the backyard extension.

Forest Management (Optional)
Berries are seasonal resources that regrow in the spring. Make sure to reassign the family working the Forager Hut during spring, as there are no berries to harvest then.

Bakeries (Required)
Bakeriesconvert flour into bread. To get flour, players will first need to farm Wheat or Rye, thresh it into Grain at a Farmhouse, and convert Grain into Flourusing a Windmill. Bakers are considered artisans and cannot do any job other than baking.

Orchardry (Required)
Like Vegetable Gardens, the size of an Apple Orchard has a direct impact on final yield. Apple Orchards take three years to fully mature, yielding only a small fraction of the total harvest during the growth stage.
Chicken Coops are the only way to get eggs (except imports) inManor Lords. The size of the backyard extension does not affect yield.
2 Planks
Beekeeping (Required)
Apiaries can be built anywhere; the exact placement doesn’t matter. Just ensure the building has road access and you don’t build more than two in one region.
All food types can be imported via the Trading Post, but this method is prohibitively expensive if used for a long time.
How to Build a Backyard Extension
Four of the seven possible food types inManor Lordsrequire knowinghow to create a backyard extensionon burgage plots. To do so, use the burgage plot placement tool from the construction menu and extend the borders beyond the minimum requirement. Asmall house icon with a hammerwill appear behind the main building. This is a backyard extension.
Making the backyard extension bigger only benefits the Apple Orchard and the Vegetable Garden extensions, as theirfinal yield is a direct result of the size of the plot.
To make a larger-than-normal extension, players can use the burgage plot tool to cover a large area. This will automatically divide the area into multiple burgage plots. Press theminus iconnext to the construction hammer to reduce the number of houses and increase the size of the backyard extension per plot. This way, players can create a massive backyard extension, equivalent toan entire farm, in a single burgage plot.
