Major Spoilers Ahead for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2The firstMarvel’s Spider-Manhad quite the selection of alternate Spidey costumes, and thanks to subsequent DLC and the PS5 remaster, it got even more after launch. In the end,Marvel’s Spider-Manhad an impressive total of 47 unique Spidey suits for players to pick from, coming from across alldifferent forms of Spider-Man mediaincluding comics, movies, and TV shows.Marvel’s Spider-Man 2goes above and beyond with its own suit collection, giving both Miles Morales and Peter Parker a vast selection of suits to choose from, some of which even have multiple color variations.

Just like the first game,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s alternate suit collectionalso contains costumes pulled from across both heroes' extensive comic histories, with some looking even better in motion on-screen than they ever have on the page. ButMarvel’s Spider-Man 2isn’t afraid of adding a few of its own original suits to the game, and while these are a bit more of a mixed bag, the best ones tend to use a mix of original designs and classic comic suit concepts, and that’s exactly the case with Peter Parker’s final story outfit.

Peter Parker’s Anti-Venom Suit Explained

Marking the start ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s final act, Peter Parker, with the help of trusty Spidey-pal Miles Morales, manages to remove the Symbiote suit, though it soon finds its way to a new host and becomes Venom. Out in the wild, Venom hatches a plan to take over New York City by infecting its citizens with the Symbiote, and in the process creates a gigantic hive mind. After bonding with the Symbiote for so long, a part of Peter Parker’s mind becomes trapped inside the Symbiote hive mind, and the only way to break him free from it is by letting Mr. Negative channel all of his Lightforce energy into Peter’s mind.

The clash of the Symbiote andMr. Negative’s Lightforce energyresults in Peter Parker being granted Anti-Venom powers, manifesting themselves in a new slick white suit with a black spider logo on the front and back, and black lenses. Harnessing Mr. Negative’s residual energy, Peter is given the ability to wield the Lightforce in a variety of Anti-Venom attacks, significantly weakening Symbiote enemies much faster than simply using regular attacks. These powers seemingly stick around even afterMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s story wraps up, with Peter being able to use the Anti-Venom suit and abilities while free-roaming after the credits roll.

For long-time fans of the Spider-Man comics, this concept of an Anti-Venom suit is nothing new. The very first appearance of an Anti-Venom in the comics came during the 2008New Ways to Dierun, which first took place duringThe Amazing Spider-Man#568-573. In this run, Eddie Brock finds out that he’s dying from an incurable cancer, but after meeting Martin Li at a soup kitchen, Brock is seemingly cured. Brock is then attacked by the Scorpion, who became the owner ofthe Venom Symbioteafter Brock auctioned it off to the highest bidder. The Venom Symbiote tries to abandon Gargan, but finds it can’t bond with Brock due to the Lightforce energy residing in him, instead giving Brock a new white Symbiote-like suit called Anti-Venom.

While the origin of the Anti-Venom suit is actually pretty similar between the comics andMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s version, it actually bears more of a resemblance to the Agent Anti-Venom suit seen much more recently in theVenom Inc.comic run. During this run, Flash Thompson becomes bonded with the Venom Symbiote once again, turning him back into the military-like Agent Venom. However, as he does so Spider-Man gives him a shot of Anti-Venom serum, changing him into Agent Anti-Venom and giving the hero a stark white look with black lenses and a black spider logo very similar toMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s version of Anti-Venom.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is available now exclusively for PS5.
