In the interview, Walters and Meek both talk about some of the changes BioWare is making to improve the games for the remaster, includingimprovements to the firstMass Effect’sgameplay experience. The developer was able to cut the load time forMass Effect’s elevator rides from the original’s one-minute ride down to 14 seconds in theLegendary Edition. This raised the question of whether or not the shortened elevator rides will remove the squad banter players enjoyed from the game too.
According to the developers, squad mates will still have their memorable banter in the elevator rides. Instead of waiting a minute for the banter to kick in,theMass Effectsquad memberswill have their dialogue start earlier once they enter the elevator. The same applies to news broadcast clips that normally played on elevator rides at the Citadel in the first game. Meeks said that these moments will trigger faster than before, and players will also have the option to either let the squad banter and news feed play out or just skip them altogether.
This way, players have the choice of either enjoying the elevator ride or just skipping it to get right to their destination. Meeks said that the elevator rides' load times will vary depending on the hard drive players are using for their PCs and consoles while playing theLegendary Edition. However, whiletheLegendary Editionwon’t be released on next-gen, the consoles' forward compatibility may come in handy to provide a more optimized experience to go with the elevator rides' faster load times. However, based on this changeMass Effectfans will have the benefits of the squad banter and shorter load times in theMass Effect: Legendary Edition.
