Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the remaster of BioWare’s classic sci-fi RPG trilogy, has finally arrived. The compilation game allows players to experience all three originalMass Effecttitles with improved graphics and gameplay features. TheMass Effectseries helped set the bar for narrative action-RPGs, and the games have always been celebrated for the amount of choice they offered players.
ThroughoutMass Effect Legendary Edition’s sprawling plot, players are constantly required to make the kinds of choices that only a Paragon/Renegade like Commander Shepard can. Often these decisions are a matter of life and death, as is the case with thechoice to kill or spare Fistin the very firstMass Effectgame.
Killing Fist In Mass Effect 1
Players will first encounter Fist fairly early on inMass Effect 1,in the depths of the Citadel. Fist is a prominent member of the Citadel underworld, running an extensive criminal network from his club Chora’s Den. Although he was once loyal to the Shadow Broker, by the time Shepard encounters him he’s switched his allegiance to Saren Arterius, the primary antagonist ofMass Effect 1.
Shepard needs to confront Fist over the location of Tali’Zorah, who is carrying evidence of Saren’s treachery. to get into Chora’s Den, players willjoin forces with Urdnot Wrexfor the first time. The gruff Krogan is working as a hitman on behalf of the Shadow Broker, with a mission to kill Fist.
Once players have fought their way into Fist’s office and forced the crime lord to surrender, he’ll reveal Tali’Zorah’s location. Afterward, players will be given the choice of whether to kill or spare him. Choosing to kill him leads to a quick execution, with no more consequences from the decision through the rest of theMass Effectseries. If Wrex is in the party, then it doesn’t matter what Shepard chooses, the Krogan hitman will complete his mission and kill Fist regardless.
Sparing Fist in Mass Effect 1
If players choose to be merciful and spare Fist, and if Wrex isn’t present, then the crime lord can survive the rest of theevents ofMass Effect 1. He’ll reappear in the second game, working in the docks of Omega. He can be found inMass Effect 2’s Afterlife Club, on the lower floor.
Fist won’t exactly be pleased with Shepard for dismantling his previous criminal empire and reducing him to manual labor. He’ll make sure to point out that he’s now legitimately employed, and that Commander Shepard doesn’t have any reason to bother him again. Players won’t encounter Fist again in the rest ofMass Effect Legendary Edition’s campaign, though according to a panel at PAX East 2013, his charred skeleton can be found in theMass Effect 3mission Priority: The Citadel II.
