STARZ announced it has picked up seasons one and two of the critically acclaimed comedy seriesMinx.The series, which stars Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond as an unlikely duo, was cancelled after one season on HBO Max.
Set in 1970s LA,Minxcenters around Joyce (Lovibond), a hardworking young feminist who joins forces with a porn publisher (Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women. Season one premiered onHBO Maxin March 2022 to generally favorable reviews. However,Minxwascancelled in December, even though production on season 2 was almost complete.

Now,Minxhas been picked by Starz, where the second season will premiere exclusively. “We have always felt this show would be a perfect fit for our brand with our dedication to narratives by, about and for women,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, President and CEO for STARZ, in a statement. “STARZ is proud to be the new home for this incredible show that has drawn in well-deserved critical acclaim. We’re excited to welcome Ellen and the talented ‘Minx’ team to the network and can’t wait to bring its passionate fans the second season."

Minxis one of many streaming properties that have been cancelled in the wake of the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger. Several big-name HBO and HBO MAX properties have been cancelled, includingWestworld,Raised by Wolves,The Nevers,Batman: Caped Crusaderand the infamousLeslie GraceBatgirlmovie, which was cancelled before it could be released. Sadly, most of these shows and movies will not be picked up by other networks or streamers, but it’s nice to know that at least one of these cancelled series has found a new home.
Minxseason 2 does not currently have a release date but is expected to premiere on STARZ in 2023.
