The ??? is known as a subconscious entity that dwells in Mob’s mind that was created due to Mob constantly suppressing his psychic powers as he grew up, he was afraid of apast childhood traumathat he went through when he accidentally lost control of his emotions and unleashed his psychic powers to hurt others.

The ???
The subconscious entity that dwells in Mob’s mind does not have an exact form and its presence can only be seen by Mob’s physical state where he appears to be in a possessed state with glowing white eyes and his usual helmet shaped hairstyle replaced by a more spiked hairstyle as if his hair was levitating. His entire body is also covered in black and the once middle school student now looks like the antagonist rather than the hero.
The ??? state happens whenMob completely loses controlof himself and has reached a level that is unknown. The appearance of the ??? subconscious state in Mob’s mind is also personified to look like an empty outlined version of Mob in the series. Although it is a manifestation of Mob’s mind, it appears to have a personality of its own. As Mob continuously pleaded with it to stop hurting his friends and the surroundings the ??? is seen unwavering by this and explains that it wishes to carry out Mob’s desires regardless of what is happening around it. The entity also has a strong disliking towards Mob as it was created because Mob continued to suppress his powers all this time.
In Season 3, Episode 12 ofMob Pyscho 100,the ??? state emerged as Mob was hit by a vehicle and caused destruction to the city scape while also hurting many people during its rampage. Its goal was focused on Mob’s desire to propose his love to Tsubomi and that was all it cared about. Ritsu (Mob’s brother) also tried to stop Mob in his ??? state but failed to do so. Mob then tried to communicate with ???explaining that what theywere doing is wrong and that he did not wish to continue hurting people like this and to stop. A few others also tried to get in the way to stop the entity from continuing its rampage such as Teruki Hanazawa, Tochiro and Sho Suzuki but failed and were either defeated or fled the battle.
The suppressed psychic powers that was continuously restrained by Mob in the past had now broken free and Mob himself could not control the entity known as ??? that dwelled within, the power it possessed was on a very large destructive scale capable of hurting people without a second thought.
Finally, Mob was able to reconcile with his ??? state whenReigen confesses the truth abouthimself being a con man and confessed he had been using Mob to carry out his exorcism jobs and that he was no true master, although Mob knew this all along, it was enough to stop the murderous rage that he was on, and he was able to reconcile with ???.
Abilities
As a powerful manifestation, it also possessed the ability to drain the psychic energy from other psychic users. Previously in a normal state, Mob would struggle to do this and would nearly die trying to absorb the psychic energies from fellow psychics. However, once in ??? state,Mob was easily able to drawout the energies without harming himself at all. The absorption level is so high that ??? is also capable of absorbing energies from the atmosphere for use. Technokinesis is also another ability that ??? is able to execute which results in nullifying electronics
Massive destruction is also something that comes with ???’s state as it was able to destroy its surrounding by just walking, it caused massive destruction such as uprooting trees and destroying buildings while causing tornadoes and earthquakes.
