The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis a massive open world game with a ton of little details that players may not notice even if they’ve logged in hundreds of hours. Many fans are revisitingSkyrimin light of theAnniversary Editionlaunch that officially brings the game to modern consoles, and so some of the game’s more hidden details are being given a new spotlight.

One of these details was recently shared by the TikTok channel gamingeastereggs, which showed off a morbid trick thatSkyrimplayers can pull off inWhiterun. As shown in the video, ifSkyrimplayers kill one of Whiterun’s citizens, or if they die by other means, the victim will have a burial urn appear in Whiterun’s Hall of the Dead after a few days.Skyrimplayers can let time pass naturally or use the helpful “wait” feature to speed things up.

After enough time has passed, the deadSkyrimNPCwill have a burial urn appear in the Hall of the Dead. Players are then table to loot it and take the items that the character had on them at their time of death. It’s probably easier to simply loot the corpses of the characters instead, but either way this is an interesting detail that it seems many players didn’t notice in their time playing the game.

However, it must be pointed out that this isn’t a quirk exclusive to Whiterun. On the contrary, this can be pulled off in the otherSkyrimcities as well as long as they have their own Hall of the Dead. Most of the majorSkyrimcities have a Hall of the Dead handy, so players have some options if they decide to recreate this trick. The only majorSkyrimcities without a Hall of the Dead are Dawnstar,Morthal, and Winterhold.

Since the launch ofSkyrim - Anniversary Edition, many players are revisiting the game and discovering these tricks for the first time. Besides this morbid grave robbing trick,Skyrimplayers have also discovered ways to level up fast and to completely avoid fall damage.Skyrimplayers have also discovered anIndiana Jones-style trickthey can pull off with pressure mechanisms in the game to avoid being hit by traps.

Skyrim’s massive open worldensures that players will often find something new when they play, even if they’ve already played it extensively. It will be interesting to see if Bethesda’s upcomingStarfieldsci-fi RPG has nearly as much depth asSkyrimhas been shown to have over the years.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Editionis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
