With rumors swirling around the internet for a while regarding the mysteriousProject Lockheart, it’s seemed increasingly likely that Microsoft will be looking to drop two models of its brand new next-generation console later this year. One, of course, will be the Xbox Series X,which currently stands as the advertised model for the company’s next big console debut, while the second will supposedly be a much cheaper, more affordable variation.
Although rumors surrounding what many assume will be called theXbox Series Shave been plentiful, it seems even more hints have surfaced that suggest a second variant is indeed on its way. This time, it appears Microsoft has registered a trademark titled “Xbox Series” with the American Patent Office, leading many to believe that the branding suggests new varients of theXbox Series Xmodel will eventually be released.

This would make a lot of sense for Microsoft specifically for a number of reasons. First and foremost,Sony is also dropping a cheaper model of the PlayStation 5that doesn’t include a disc tray, meaning that Xbox will likely also release a cheaper variant of the Xbox Series X model. Secondly, the release of a smaller Xbox that will likely focus on providing purchasers digital content makes a lot of sense for Microsoft, especially as the company has thousands of players currently utilizing Xbox Game Pass and is looking heavily into advanced streaming technology going into the future.
However, there have been some worries surrounding the release of the supposed Xbox Series S, with a number ofrumors and leaks claiming that the console will be a less powerful variant of the Xbox Series X. This is seemingly to offer players who can’t afford to purchase the more expensive version of the console a way to play the biggest new games, however, it seems like a strange concept when the PlayStation 5 will be offering a cheaper variant that still runs and plays just as well as its financially heftier counterpart. Regardless, it seems it’s worth waiting a few months to see exactly what this heavily-rumored console turns out to be.
As for when fans can expect to hear Microsoft discuss its foray into next-generation technology, the major console manufacturer will behosting a broadcast to discuss all things Xbox Series X next month. Players can expect to see some major first-party games, some more direct information about the console’s release, and much more. Hopefully, Project Lockhart will finally get some form of a reveal.
