The Baratie arc, which many hold in high regard, is no exception and went through several changes when being adapted into live action. This arc is whereSanji ends up joining the Straw Hat Piratesand marks the climax of the East Blue Saga. While the live-action version of the Baratie arc is certainly very fun, it is also very different from the source material in many ways.

7Don Krieg’s Role

The first major change that is apparent to every fan when it comes to the Baratie arc is the involvement of Don Krieg. Fans know Krieg to be an extremely important character, given that he is the main antagonist of the entire arc.

In the source material, Krieg comes to Baratie to eat after his defeat in the Grand Line. Then, he decides to take over the ship and ends up being defeated by Luffy. In theOne Piece Live Action series, Don Krieg is defeated in the Grand Line by Mihawk and he isn’t seen after.

6Gin’s Involvement

Gin is a very important character in the Baratie arc when it comes to the manga. He is a member of the crew of Don Krieg and, after the defeat of the Krieg Pirates in the Grand Line, he comes to the Baratie to eat some food after being starved to a near-death condition. Sanji feeds him for free and eventually, he becomes indebted to him. Later, he returns with his captain to take over the place, however, in the end, cannot bring himself to kill the man who saved his life.

InOne Piece Live Action, Gin doesn’t bring his captain back as he is believed to be dead. He only begs for food and is later fed by Sanji, which significantly reduces his role as well as his importance in the arc.

5Garp’s Involvement

Garp is prevalent throughout the first season of theOne Piece Live Action series, and the Baratie arc is no different. After facing defeat from his grandson on the open sea once, Garp sends one of the Warlords of the Sea, Dracule Mihawk to take care of his grandson and his crew.

Garp-1

Of course, he does not want Luffy dead and Mihawk is ordered to beat him but keep him alive. Garp isn’t involved in the original Baratie arc at all. He does appear in cover stories later on, but his role isn’t as prominent. This is a welcomed change for many fans in the live action.

4Dracule Mihawk’s Mission

Dracule Mihawk is a character who plays a significant role in Baratie in all versions ofOne Piece. However, his reason for coming to the ocean-going restaurant is very different in the source material and the live action. In the source material, Mihawk visits this place to chase down the Dreadnought Saber, and its crew in order to kill time.

In One Piece Live Action, he is sent to the restaurant by Garp to seek out Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. In both versions, however, he ends up fighting against Zoro and spares his life after challenging him to rise to the top and meet him there.

3Sanji’s Introduction

Sanji’s introduction is very differentwhen comparing the two versions ofOne Piece. In the original, Sanji is seen serving Fullbody and his date. After being disrespected by them, he goes on to embarrass him and when he wastes food, Sanji beats him to a pulp.

In theOne Piece Live Action series, this doesn’t happen. Instead, Sanji is seen whipping up a dish of his own using bluefin tuna, and later on, he goes on to break a fight between Fullbody and Galley. In both versions, his passion for food and his wrath for those who waste it are shown very well.

2Arlong And The Fishmen

One of the biggest changes in Netflix’sOne Piece Live Actionwhen it comes to Baratie concernsthe Fish Man, Arlong.Towards the end of the arc, Arlong makes it to this place and fights against the Straw Hat Pirates.

He utterly destroys the crew and ends up taking the map with him. This encounter doesn’t take place in the manga. Only his bounty poster is revealed to the fans in the Baratie arc.

1Nami’s Escape

In the source material,Nami ends up stealing the map to the Grand Line, as well as the Going Merry from the Straw Hat Pirates, and goes back to Arlong Park by herself.

In One Piece Live Action, this does not happen. Nami does seem intent on leaving the crew at one instance, however, by this point, she has already forged friendships with them. She turns back but is later sought out by Arlong himself. When the crew is defeated, Nami tries to save them by going back with Arlong and giving him the map to the Grand Line.
