Netflix’sOne Piece live-action serieshas been making waves among fans as a teaser trailer was finally released very recently. Judging from the very first look, theOne Piece Live Action seriesappears to be very promising and there are quite a lot of things that appear to have nailed perfectly, including the casting.

One of the very best casting decisions thatthey have made is that of Nami.Nami is being played by Emily Rudd, who the fans absolutely adore and even Oda gave a thumbs up to. Netflix’sOne Piece live-action adaptationis certainly going to be different in some ways and that means characters such as Emily’s Nami are also going to be somewhat different from what fans are used to seeing in the manga and the anime.
5Fighting Prowess
One of the most important aspects of Nami’s character is that she is not a great fighter. She is a great strategizer and she relies on her wits in combat. In Netflix’s version ofOne Piece, Nami is, of course, going to be weaker than the characters of Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. However, she is going to be somewhat more adept at using her staff than what fans are used to saying and the early parts of the anime.
Nami was seen engaging in combat in the teaser trailer and, by the looks of it, she appears to be very skilled. The stunts that the actors or their doubles will have to perform will surely make Nami look more adept when it comes to combat and that certainly is a stark difference when compared to the Nami that fans are used to seeing in the manga.
4Age
Another glaring change that Netflix’sOne Piece live-action adaptationwill bring is related to Nami’s age. Strictly speaking, there are two ways this could go. Either Netflix sticks with Nami’s true age, which is 19 before the timeskip, and in that case, Emily and all the other members of the Straw Hat cast such as Inaki, Taz Skylar, Mackenyu, and Jacob, among others will be much older than their manga counterparts.
Another way this could gois that Netflix’s versionofOne Piecesimply ages up the characters since the series is set to be aimed at a more mature audience anyway. Nami, instead of being 19 at the beginning of the series, could be older, which would solve this problem once and for all.
3Outfits
One of the most intriguing changes that Netflix’sOne Piece Live Action adaptationbrings is the outfits of the characters. While the characters inOne Pieceoften change their outfits several times during an arc, in the early parts ofOne Piece, that certainly wasn’t the case.

Mostmembers of the Straw Hat Pirateskept their primary outfits throughout the East Blue Saga. However, that is going to be changed in theOne Piece Live Action series. The live-action series is going to give different outfits based on the volume covers and color spreads drawn by Oda to the main cast, which is nothing short of a brilliant touch. As such, Nami’s wardrobe in Netflix’sOne Piece Live Action adaptationis going to be much bigger.
2Her Gag
Nearlyevery member of the Straw Hat Pirateshas a gag associated with their characters. Nami has a bunch and one of them is that she often feels frustrated by the stupidity of her crew members, leading her to put them in their place. This gag will likely need to be changed for the live-action version ofOne Piece.Nami cannot simply beat Luffy or any other member of the crew to a pulp for laughs. This simply wouldn’t translate well to the live-action version ofOne Piece.
Instead, she would have to be more mature and deal with their stupidity in a different way. How exactly Netflix will tackle this aspect of her character remains to be seen, however, fans can rest assured that Emily Rudd will bring Nami to life.
1More Mature
Overall, Emily Rudd’sNami is going to be much more maturein Netflix’sOne Piece Live Action adaptation. This is simply down to the fact that the live-action series is not aimed at a younger audience. One Piece, both as an anime and a manga, is aimed at young teens and Netflix’s adaptation of it is for all the fans and for new audiences, many of which will be older. For this reason, many characters will have to be more mature than they appear in the anime or the manga.
Emily Rudd’s Nami is, thus, going to be likely different from what fans are used to seeing in the manga. Of course, that doesn’t mean the essence of the character is going to be stripped away. It simply means that the character will be fine-tuned to fit the medium perfectly. Given the fact that even Oda was absolutely blown away by Emily Rudd’s performance as Nami, fans can rest assured that she is going to deliver as everyone’s favorite cat burglar.
