Horror game enthusiasts should keep an eye out for the new found-footage horror gameParanormal Tales, which has some seriousParanormal Activityvibes. Every year there are tons of new horror games hitting the indie market, trying to find new ways to scare their audience. Classics likePuppet Combo’sStay Out of the Houseand Chilla’s ArtThe Convenience Storeare only a few of these newer horror games coming out. While many have been trying to emulate the VHS tapes with a more retro-style art style to them, there is one upcoming game that seems to be trying to look more like a ghost video from the internet.
Paranormal Activityhas been a heavy influence in myriad horror films that have been coming out since its release, where instead of trying to look more cinematic with dynamic camera angles, it elects to go for a more realistic route where someone sets up a camera to capture the supernatural. At first, it was a cheap but effective method to build up tension and horror in the audience, utilizing subtlety to keep them on their toes. It’s fair to say that this influence has also spread into many video games, trying to capture that realistic feel of a normal person experiencing the supernatural.

One upcoming horror game is looking to capture that feel, as shown in its latest trailer. The game, titledParanormal Tales, released a Pre-Alpha gameplay trailer recreating anauthentic found-footage experienceshowing what would be the premise of the usual ghost encounter video seen on YouTube. In the trailer, someone is recording a hall in their house, hearing a banging in the distance and calling out to whoever it could be before going out and trying to investigate. They explore the house, finding nothing and hearing more noises elsewhere before going to investigate that as well.
Eventually, this leads up to an encounter where some supernatural entity hunts down the character, chasing them up to their bedroom where they attack them in their closet in a final jump scare. While it isn’t clear if this will be the only type of gameplay that will be inParanormal Tales, the developerHorror Cam Committee did release a trailer to first showcase the experienceseveral months ago, which included scenes in the forest, haunted homes, and more.
While theParanormal Activityseries seems like it’s ending, there will always be space for such spooky experiences in the gaming world, and always people willing to scare themselves. While there is no exact date for whenParanormal Talesis set to release, except sometime this year, there will most likely be more trailers to show the game off.
