Upcoming farming and life simFarlandswill put a sci-fi spin on the farming and life sim genre when it debuts in July 2024. With gameplay based around growing crops and taming the land, the first look atFarlandsshows a lot of similarities toStardew Valley,but sets the game on a player’s own agrarian planet.

Stardew Valleyhas become one of the most popular indie games of all time, incorporating farming and community relationship elements from franchises likeHarvest Moonand dungeon-delving action similar to what can be found inMinecraft. With all the popularity it’s gained since its 2016 release, there have been plenty of othergames likeStardew Valleyin its wake, but none that quite resemble whatFarlandsis presenting.

As shown off in a reveal trailer,Farlandswill have a familiar feel forStardew Valleyfans, incorporating a similar pixelated style and several of the same gameplay elements, such as growing and harvesting a wide variety of crops, chopping down trees, removing weeds, and fishing, as well as visiting friendly-looking aliens with a small-town feel. The trailer also shows off a similar dungeon system to theStardew Valleymineformat, showing a player slaying alien monsters while trying to collect minerals. Even the premise of the two games has a similar feel, as the set-up for the game is the player character escaping from their “hectic, stressful life” and buying their own planet to live a “more rural and rewarding life.”

What Sets Farlands Apart from Stardew Valley

Of course,Farlandsbeing set on an alien planet isn’t the only difference between the two games, as its setting opens up several possibilities for new gameplay experiences in the cozy farming sim genre, some of which are shown off in the trailer.Exploring other planetswill be part of the gameplay, and while there likely aren’t as many planets as inStarfield,Farlands’trailer shows off a ship upgrade system that incorporates several ship features, including cargo space, engine, and fuel cell capacity. Additionally, the trailer shows the player character wielding a net and using it to capture small captures in a couple of different environments.

According to the game’s Steam page, Farlands is set for release on Jun 07, 2025. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. It’s not the only upcoming gamegiving offStardew Valleyvibes, but for fans looking for an interplanetary adventure, it might just provide their new home away from home.
