As is the case with many JRPGs,NieR Replicantwill challenge its players with a number of dungeon-delving experiences. ButNieRhas a reputation for being strange and unpredictable. That’s why some dungeons inNieR Replicantpresent obstacles that most gamers will find to be unprecedented. One such dungeon is theBarren Temple, and this short guide will assist players with clearing its troublesomethird trial.
While on the hunt for Sealed Verses, the protagonist ofNieR Replicantmakes his way to the desert city of Facade. It’s a strange city dictated by over 120,000 rules that each citizen must follow to a T. A dramatic set of circumstances carries the hero to the nearby Barren Temple, which is also a place governed by unreasonable rules. The trials that players must overcome within the temple involve solving puzzles while conforming to a set of strict limitations. The dungeon’s third trial has been a notoriously difficult challenge ever since theoriginal release of the game in 2010.

Barren Temple Third Trial Puzzle Solution
The third trial takes place in a room with rows of orb-spitting boxes on both the right and left sides. The player must simply make it to the other side of the room and break the red cube without getting hit by any orbs. However, they must do so without breaking any of the room’s specific rules. The rules are Racing Wolf, Evasive Mouse, and Magic-Spewing Bat. Many fanshave made the common mistakeof not understanding the meanings of these rules at first. To rephrase, this means that the player can not run, evade, or use magic.
It is impossible to bob and weave through the bullet-hell of orbs without the ability to run or evade. The orbs can’t be deflected with magic either, as per the rules. Jumping over the orbs is impractical as well, since the player can’t air-dash. The only option is to proceed slowly along the side of the room, preferably the left side, anddestroy the deadly boxes with melee attacks. It is likely that some oncoming orbs from the opposite side of the room will need to be deflected with melee attacks. As a reminder, players can only move by walking while undergoing this challenge. Extra care should be taken to only tilt the analog stick very slightly in order to maintain a walking speed.
With this most tricky trial completed, players should have no problem reaching the boss fight at the end of the Barren Temple. When the dungeon is cleared,a number of side questswill open up in the city of Facade. It could be a wise decision to collect some extra gold from questing before continuing the story.
Between the tricky Barren Temple dungeon and the side quests that can be taken afterward, some players will spend a lot of time around Facade. When the time comes to move on, everyone can look forward to a change of scenery withthe Forest of Myth. Those experiencingNieR Replicantfor the first time will find that the story has barely even begun.
