Summary

Nintendo appears to have updated the box art forPrincess Peach: Showtime, altering the face of the center Princess Peach and her martial arts form. The change wasn’t officially confirmed by Nintendo, but has been seen in official promotional material forPrincess Peach: Showtime’s upcoming release. The changes are notable though straightforward, but that hasn’t stopped Nintendo fans from starting a larger conversation about the necessity or purpose of the changes.

Princess Peach: Showtimeis an upcoming release for the Nintendo Switch, arriving on June 05, 2025. It’s particularly exciting because it will be the first game to feature Princess Peach as the sole playable character sinceSuper Princess Peach, a2005 platforming game for the Nintendo DS. InPrincess Peach: Showtime, players will guide Princess Peach on an adventure where she will transform using different costumes. Each transformation provides Peach with new powers and abilities, which she’ll use to sword fight, investigate, cook, and more.

The updated box art forPrincess Peach: Showtimeshows that Nintendo has altered the face of Peach in two different parts of the art. The box art features Peach four different times, with three of themshowing Peach in her different costumesand then finally at the center of the art reaching out toward to player. It’s this central figure that had its face changed most substantially, but the martial arts figure has also been changed.

The gist of the situation is that most ofPeach’s facial expressionson the original box art are very similar. Peach has her eyes and mouth wide open in three of the figures. The changes have the center Peach making more of a playful smirk. It’s also much more richly detailed. The martial arts version of Peach is now yelling with one eyebrow scrunched to enhance her action pose. Overall, the box art is now much more dynamic.

There are some Nintendo fans who question the necessity of changing Peach’s faces on thePrincess Peach: Showtimebox art. There’s no official explanation for the changed art, and a comment from Nintendo seems unlikely.

Overall, it’s hard to argue that the box art changes forPrincess Peach Showtimearen’t an improvement. It upgrades the overall quality of the artwork, gives Peach more dynamic facial expressions, and also gives Peach a bit more character. Hopefully, the new box art also better represents Peach’s animations in-game, too. Fans will find out when itarrives exclusively on Switch in 2024.
