Blizzard has released the third and final episode of itsOverwatch 2anime series Genesis, with part 3 entitled “Rebirth.” Fans have been asking for anOverwatchanime series for years, and Blizzard has finally delivered with a three-part mini-series that goes over some of the most important events in the universe’s backstory.
TheOverwatch 2anime series started by showing the creation of the first sentient omnic, Aurora. Thesecond episode of theOverwatch 2anime seriesthen showed the beginning of the Omnic Crisis, revealing how the AI God program Anubis started building machines of war and turning them against humanity. The titular Overwatch group was formed in response to the Omnic Crisis, but they would need even more help if they hoped to win the war.

Episode 3: Rebirth shows how humanity was still struggling to survive during the Omnic Crisis, even with Overwatch. Eventually, scientists realize that there is one omnic who is not under Anubis' control, with that being none other than Aurora.Overwatch 2fans will need to watch the latest episode of the anime series to see what happens next, but it explains how theOmnic Crisiscame to an end. Of course,Overwatch 2fans know that this is just the first Omnic Crisis.
TheOverwatch 2anime series reiterates a lot of backstory and lore that fans may have already been aware of, but in a more digestible format. It’s setting the stage for theupcomingOverwatch 2Invasion update, scheduled to drop on August 10. That update will show what’s happening in the present-dayOverwatch 2timeline, as the game’s various heroes are fighting back against a new Omnic Crisis.
The present-dayOverwatch 2story will play out in PvE co-op missions. The first three of these will be released as part of the August 10 update. Unfortunately, theOverwatch 2PvE story missions are blocked behind a $15 paywall. Some fans may also be disappointed to learn that these three missions will be the only ones added to the hero shooter this year.
With this anime series explaining the backstory ofOverwatchand detailing the original Omnic Crisis, one has to wonder if the events shown here will play a role in the present-dayOverwatch 2storyline. PerhapsAnubis will be a factor, or maybe some other details from the anime series will be referred to instead. Fans will have to play the PvE story missions for themselves once theOverwatch 2Invasion update drops on August 10.
