Overwatch 2’s upcoming PvE mode is set to release at some point in 2023, and though it has not been shown for some time, what fans have seen of it has been promising. Skill trees for the game’s many heroes that modify old abilities and add new ones should provide some extra depth, whilehundreds of hero missionsshould ensure that players have a lot of variety when it comes to the game’s levels. The overall story finally moving forward is exciting too, though best of all, it seems like there will be some good enemy variety.
Overwatch 2providing players with a variety of foes to fight is key, as games likeMarvel’s Avengershave shown how detrimental a lack of enemy types can be. Even if new missions are constantly added, that means little if there is not a wide variety of threats to deal with. Fortunately, the many different types of Omnics that have already been revealed for the sequel provide a good starting point, and bringing back Talon could expand the villain lineup even further.

Why Talon Makes Sense For Overwatch 2’s PvE Mode
As players continue tobattle Ramattra’s army of Omnics, it will likely get a bit tiring fighting robotic foes time and time again. While this will not be an issue immediately, it will be a long term problem, and sinceOverwatch 2is a live service game it is important for Blizzard to hold onto a large pool of active players. When it comes to PvE, adding more enemy types alongside missions and locations will be key, and Talon provides a great starting point.
Talon enemies were featured in the Retribution and Storm Rising missions from the firstOverwatch’s Archives event, and there were a few types featured as part of the faction.Snipers functioned like Widowmakerand did serious damage if left unchecked, while the assassins jumping on players forced teammates to watch out for each other and save their allies from being stabbed to death. Regular grunts were a good way to give the heroes some enemies to quickly gun down, while the heavies forced everyone to work together and attack weak points.
Though the Omnic forces led byOverwatch 2’s newest Tankwill have a heavy variant and likely some sniper-like enemies, it would still be nice to see Talon worked into the mix alongside them. Having missions where players battle Omnics and Talon forces exclusively could help with replaybility, and missions that see the villains teaming up could be even more exciting. Higher difficulties could mix and match Talon and the Null Sector Omnics more frequently as well, forcing players to be familiar with all kinds of different enemy forms.
From a lore standpoint, Talon being featured within the PvE campaign makes perfect sense. This is becauseDoomfistand Ramattra were shown meeting at the end of Storm Rising, suggesting that a proper alliance had been forged between the terrorists of Talon and robots of Null Sector. With this being so clearly established, it would be strange to not include Talon in the villain lineup when the sequel rolls around, as Doomfist should be more than happy to support his new ally.
Talon’s inclusion would also allow for more boss fights against establishedOverwatchcharacters. Though it could be fun to clash with giant Omnics andface Ramattra as a final boss, it would be thrilling to battle the villainous members of theOverwatch2 cast in addition to that. Fortunately, Talon assisting Null Sector would make this possible, as players could battle Reaper, Sigma, Moira, Doomfist, and so on. Not only would Talon’s basic soldiers add some all-important enemy variety, but featuring the organization would also enable a wider range of boss fights within the PvE content.
Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
