Anyone who has played or heard ofPalworldcan easily ascertain that it is heavily influenced by Nintendo’s juggernaut of a game franchise,Pokemon. Although there are some deviations, such asPalworld’s mechanic of creating and using weapons, both games' objectives are essentially identical: explore the world to meet and capture the numerous creatures that inhabit it.

The monsters, also known as Pals, reside within numerous islands. Each has unique quirks and abilities that make them desirable or unfeasible in the eyes of players who are amassing their workforce and exploration team. Those trying to build a powerful and effective battling squad willalways consider a Pal’s typing, as each has advantages and disadvantages. While most are copied over fromPokemon, one in particular is not in the game, leaving some confused about its lack of inclusion.

Just like inPokemon, it’s important to keep track ofwhat a potential Pal is strong and weak against. With numerous winged monsters soaring through the skies, it is reasonable to question the lack of a Flying type. Having it in the game can, for better or worse, influence changes in how players tackle certain battles. WhilePalworld’srock-paper-scissors battle mechanic can already be overwhelming to some, the Flying element’s absence in affecting it seems like a missed opportunity.

Why Palworld Should Have the Flying Type

Players who have taken the time tocompare Pal elements toPokemontypeswill notice that a number of skills have names that do not match the element they belong to. A good example would be the skill Wind Cutter. A move titled as such would make sense as a Flying-type move inPokemon, but it is currently a Grass-type ability. There are other instances of this, such as Air Cannon being a moderately effective Neutral-type attack, Mystic Whirlwind being a powerful Dragon-type skill, etc. The simple addition of a Flying element could easily rectify this dissonant design.

Another reason to add the type would be that every island has numerous creatures that are essentially birds.Palworldcontains many flying Palsthat would be sensible choices for having the Flying-type element tied to their names, making their powers of flight more mechanically distinct. In terms of how it can affect a winged companion’s battle capability, it allows for more diverse options, as players can carefully consider which can benefit specific combat scenarios.

The Drawbacks of Having Flying-Type Pals

Including a Flying type means more things that a player must contemplate. It may have potential advantages but also its fair share of weaknesses. Knowingwhich Pal type is effective against anotheris important in winning a battle inPalworld. Incorporating an additional variable into the element system means more information to remember. This means that some Pals and moves will be modified to compete with the Flying element, which can be seen as nothing more than an inconvenience to some, as it creates more research and adjustments they need to make.

AsPalworldcontinues to grow, there are more areas that the developers can continue to develop and opportunities to seize that can improve the already great game. With the upcoming PvP arena update that is set to arrive later this year, having more new monsters and elements to play with appears to be an appropriate request from the game’s fans.

While some are asking formore Pal elemental types to be introducedinto the game, the developers must consider how this will affect their future plans. Whether they are added in the long run will be determined by how they can be balanced to ensure thatPalworldretains its current player base and level of enjoyment.
