Path of Exile’s 3.13 expansion has officially been delayed due to the launch date ofCyberpunk 2077. With the recent announcement from CD Projekt Red thatCyberpunk’s release date was being pushed back 21 days from its original November 19 release date,Path of Exiledevelopers have decided to make time for their players to get their hands on the new game.
Originally,Path of Exile’s 3.13 expansion was set to launch on December 11, and while the developer is still confident they’d make that goal,Cyberpunk’s new December 10 release datehas complicated things.Cyberpunk 2077has attracted a huge amount of attention throughout its development and will likely continue to do so through its release.

Given that the newPath of ExileexpansionandCyberpunk 2077would have released within a day of each other, Grinding Gear Games has decided to step aside and avoid forcing its players to choose between the two games. Now, thePath of Exile3.13 expansion won’t launch until sometime in January.
However, Grinding Gear wrote in its announcement that it still expects to finish work on the expansion in early-to-mid December; with the remaining time, the developer will be working onPath of Exile’s next 3.14 expansion. That way, players will have some time to sink their teeth intoCyberpunk, and still have newPath of Exilecontent to explore in the new year.
While the delay in 3.13’s release has nothing to do with actually finishing work on it, and therefore won’t affect Grinding Gear’s development schedule, the developer does expect it to affectPath of Exile’s release schedule for 2021. It’s an effect that seems only natural, and though there aren’t any solid release dates to compare yet, Grinding Gear’s announcement claimed that the release schedule should only change “a little bit.” Hopefully,Path of Exile’s content won’t be altered too much over recent developments.
Meanwhile, it’s been speculated thatCyberpunk 2077’s current delay (the most recent of many over the months) has to do with finalizing its current-gen versions of the game. While the delay is disappointing,CD Projekt Red even received threatsfrom some seriously overreacting fans when news of the delay hit - enough that the developer had to ask people to stop sending threats over social media.
Whenever thePath of Exileupdatedoeslaunch, perhaps theCyberpunkcraze will have died down enough to net a good number of players. Nonetheless,Cyberpunk’s new release date stands - and apparently, it stands to change other developers' plans too.
