Summary
Peacemakerseason 2 may still be a way off, but James Gunn still has some tidbits to share. In this case, he’s a little more concerned about what not to put in the show rather than what to include.
Gunn often answers questions about past and upcoming projects on social media. Other times, it will be more of a solo affair, like whenGunn posted about the history of The Joker, inspiring instant speculation from fans regarding the character’s future in the newDCUniverse. In this case, however, the former is the play of the day, and it finally gave some fans the tiniest bit of new info regarding the highly-anticipated second season of the John Cena-led spinoff to Gunn’sThe Suicide Squad,Peacemaker.

Taking to the arguably hip new platformThreads, Gunn recently spent time answering fan questions, both serious and otherwise. Aside from more chuckle-worthy moments like saying he mostly kept Starlord’s helmet off inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3because “I wanted to make Chris Pratt work more days,” he also entertained some queries regarding future projects. One fan asked if Marvel stars like Pratt and Pom Klementieff fromGuardianswould ever guest star as themselves inPeacemaker, to which Gunn replied, “There are reasons I wouldn’t want either of those actors to play themselves in the DCU!”
It’s interesting to think of the implications here.Peacemaker’s violence earned him an appearance inMortal Kombat, so a possible reason could be that including any Marvel stars as themselves would almost guarantee they would die hilariously and messily as part of their cameos. Even several characters whodanced prominently inPeacemaker’s wonderfully catchy openingdidn’t survive the series. So what chance do a couple of guest stars have? In a show about Cena’s titular hero-ish character violently taking out waves of enemies with his new team, a cameo may only amount to another few gallons in the blood pool.
However, it’s also possible that Gunn’s comment could mean he already has plans for both Pratt and Klementieff in the new DCU. It wouldn’t be unheard of for actors to move between DC and Marvel. Even within Gunn’s projects, people like Chukwudi Iwuji have made the jump, playing Clemson Murn inPeacemakerfollowed by the terrifying High Evolutionary inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Given how prolific Pratt, in particular, is these days, even rumored to appear in anupcomingJak and Daxtermovie, it wouldn’t be farfetched to see him traverse properties.
Unfortunately, this is pretty much the extent of new info regardingPeacemakerseason 2. It’ll still be a while before the show continues, so fans must resort to other avenues for their hilarious ultraviolence fix.Why notHarley Quinn, which also happens to be on Max? There’s never a bad time to sing that show’s praises.
