OnePokemonfan recently shared their idea for a fusion between the Ghost-Poison Pokemon Haunter and the spherical Ice Pokemon Glalie. The intriguing piece of pixel art offers a look at whatPokemonfans might want to see from a hypothetical new Ghost-Ice Pokemon.
The idea of fusing two Pokemoninto something new is not a new idea within thePokemonfandom. Various websites allow fans to fuse Pokemon into hypothetical combinations featuring unique art featuring elements of both. The fan-madePokemon SummerandPokemon Winteralso featured a concept called FUSEmon, which was a small number of special Pokemon created by fusing two specific ones together. However, these kinds of fusions never made their way intoPokemoncanon.

User Houndoom_Kaboom designed the fusion between Haunter and Glalie and shared hisart on thePokemonsubreddit. For those unfamiliar, Haunter is a Generation 1 Ghost-poison Pokemon consisting of a face and two floating hands. Meanwhile, Generation 2 Ice Pokemon Glalie similarly consists of a large, floating, snowball-like head. The combination between the two thus makes a lot of sense and resembles Haunter with Glalie-inspired coloring and horns.
Houndoom_Kaboom is something of a knownPokemonfan artist, having shared several of his creations on thePokemonsubreddit. His previous post featured an image gallery where he combined his namesake Pokemon Houndoom with various other Pokemon, including Umbreon, Eevee, Granbull, and more. He also has image galleries for fusions involving Pokemon including the Ghost-Fire Pokemon Chandelure, the Water Pokemon Milotic, and the Psychic-Fairy Pokemon Gardevoir, among others.
Most of the fans on thePokemonsubreddit were very impressed with Houndoom_Kaboom’s latest work, though there was some criticism as well. For example, one commenter felt it looked more like a skin or variant than a new Pokemon. However, praise significantly outnumbered the criticism. The top comment under the post was someone pointing to this fan-made fusion as proof that the franchise needs more Ghost-Ice Pokemon. Another commenter said that the artist was why theywanted Pokemon fusions to become canon.
Houndoom_Kaboom didn’t name his fusion of Haunter and Glalie, though community suggestions included Halie, Glaunte, and the ominous Snowgraved Haunter. At least one commenter invented some fan lore for the fused Pokemon. Writing in tone from a faux Pokedex entry, they dubbed it the “Deadly Chill” Pokemon and suggested it lowered the temperature in the air around it too -18,000ºF. That’s several thousand degrees below absolute zero, but physical impossibility has never stoppedPokemonbefore.
