A talented and creativePokemonfan is quickly gaining attention for their impressive Mega Evolution designs of Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr. Whilethe Johto region startershave been out of the spotlight for a while now, their popularity remains strong with many aPokemonfan, including one who decided to come up with their own Mega Evolution concepts.
For those who may be unaware, Mega Evolutions are a mechanic introduced as part of the sixth generation ofPokemon, which allow certain Pokemon to evolve into a further form past its usual final evolutionary stage. The Pokemon must be holding a Mega Stone which, when activated with a trainer’s Key Stone, temporarily transforms them into a “Mega” version of themselves. This usually comes with increased strength, a larger size, more accentuated features, and a shift in typing and abilities. Whilethe Mega Evolution mechanichas been dropped in the latest core entries, it lives on currently inPokemon GO.

The trio of Johto starter Mega Evolutions comes from Reddit user PhatmonMonstraros, who posted their artwork to one of the site’sPokemonforums. The artist does an excellent job at building upon their regular designs while maintaining their identity. The Meganium looks closest to its original form, featuring fur-esque leaves on its sides and neck, with pairs of flowers adorning its neck and shoulders. Typhlosion arguably is the most changed, sporting a tweaked color scheme, flaming head, and tufts of fur. The Feraligatr looks like it lives at the gym, with a far more muscular build and accentuated body spikes.
The concept art appears to be popular with other Redditors in thePokemonfan community, with the piece of concept art collecting hundreds of upvotes within hours of being posted. Many fans complimented the Mega Evolution designs, particularly that of Typhlosion and Feraligatr. While a couple fans did compliment the Meganium design, it was nowhere near the level of reaction a differentfan-made Meganium Mega Evolution. Rather than adding multiple flowers like the one above, this design doubles down on the flower around Meganium’s neck, turning it into a massive blossom.
The Mega Evolution designs of Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr isn’t the only piece ofPokemonart PhatmonMonstraros has created. A couple of months ago, the same artist also gaveKecleon an impressive Paradox form, turning the Pokemon into a Normal/Ghost-type and making portions of its body transparent. The artist also gives Kecleon a trio of horns and more accentuated head frills, echoing some of the design elements featured above.
With a second and third-gen drawing under their belt, it would seem PhatmonMonstraros has a penchant for olderPokemongenerations, but it will be interesting to see what comes next.
