A talentedPokemonfan has given Blastoise a new regional variant, making the classic Water-type Pokemon into a new Ghost-type form. This is the latest of many Pokemon reimaginings made by the community, as fans create several new forms of Pokemon daily, includinghuman versions of Pokemon, fusions, as well as past and future Paradox forms.
Regional Pokemon forms were introduced inPokemon Sun and Moonduring the seventh generation of the franchise. These are alternate versions of previously known creatures that get different shapes and colors in other regions due to different types. What makes them so interesting is that they shake up the original Pokemon’s design and gameplay at the same time, as they also get new abilities. So far, over 50 Pokemon have official regional variants, such as Raichu, Rattata, Geodude, and others. However, this does not stop eagerPokemonfans from creating even more regional variants.

An artist who lovesPokemoncalled El-psy-congroo-01 has recently shared their latest creation on social media: a regional form of Blastoise that is a Water/Ghost-type. This version is a curious take on Blastoise, taking some of its design from Wartortle. It keeps the previous evolution’s tail and ears, instead of losing them like the original Blastoise. Also, it’s purple, instead of blue, and its head resembles a skull, something that combines very well with its new Ghost type. El-psy-congroo-01 is fairly well known in thePokemoncommunity and has already created other popular designs, such asa Paradox form of Sharpedo.
Most people in the comments were glad to see this new version of Blastoise. Ria_dove, for instance, affirmed they always wanted Blastoise to look more like a Wartortle, instead of reverting to Squirtle’s design, but with cannons. Mathias_Greyjoy, who actually commissioned the piece, explained the decision. According to them, this version was heavily inspired by the Blastoise Beta design, a lostPokemondesign in which this creature would actually look very different, and the goal was to return to these lost roots while keeping the design fresh with a different type.
Pokemonfans often create some stunning artwork based on the franchise, and another fan decided to take one step further, bymixingPokemonwithX-Men. This gave some uncanny results, such as hybrids of Jubillee and Magikarp, for instance, or a fusion between Mr. Mime and Mister Sinister, which makes for a pretty funny combination.
