APokemonfanhas revealed an impressive pixel tattoo. The image in question focuses on the main character and their starter companion from theYellowedition of the original games. It is one of manyPokemontattoo tributes that can be found throughout the internet.
Released in Japan in late 1998,Pokemon Yellowwas the first follow-up toRedandBlue. The game was an updated version of the previous games that notably contained more connections to the anime series. Mainly it gave players control of the franchise mascot Pikachu who traveled with the player character outside the Pokeball, along with several other similarities. The game is now a valuable collector’s item, and, in one instance, a sealed copy ofPokemon Yellowwas valued at over $10,000. In addition, the game holds a place in the hearts of fans all around the world.

Over the years, fans have shared many of their own personal tributes to the franchise, with some having the iconic creatures inked onto their body. One fan, for example, had aGameboy and the Pokemon Squirtle tattooed onto their arm. In this instance, Reddit user Vikakashi shared a tattoo that paid tribute toPokemon Yellow. The artwork in question showed the game’s player character with Pikachu following behind the trainer in the original pixel form.
Pokemon Yellowwould eventually go on to sell over 14 million copiesworldwide. This also started a pattern in the franchise where a year or two after the release of the initial game, Nintendo and Game Freak would release some kind of improved version of the latest installment. This would continue until the 2010s when instead of releasing a single new, improved game, the developer released a new version ofPokemon BlackandWhitethat were known simply asPokemon Black 2andWhite 2. More modern installments have seemingly abandoned the practice altogether in favor of releasing DLC and more traditional patches and content updates.Pokemon Yellow’s legacy, however, has not been completely forgotten.
In 2018 NintendoannouncedPokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, which can be described as a remake ofYellow. The game’s sales would fall just short ofYellow’s but showed that there was still an audience for the original generation of the creatures that started it all. As long as that audience remains passionate about the early days ofPokemon, it is likely that tattoos like this will continue to grace the internet for some time.
