Summary

OnePokemonfan artist has transformed Groudon into an epic Flying-type creature.Pokemonis a popular subject for fan art, and legendary pocket monsters are often used as inspiration. It is also quite common for artists to imagine what Pokemon would look like if they were a different type altogether.

Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza are the main Legendary Pokemon from Gen 3 gamesPokemon Ruby,Sapphire, andEmerald. The lore of the Gen 3 legendariesoften lump the three together given the significance they all play within the history of the Hoenn region. Kyogre and Groudon are pitted against each other as opposing forces, and this is even seen with their respective types. Kyogre is a Water-type Pokemon that formed the oceans, and Groudon is a Ground-type Pokemon that formed the land.

Reddit user JJonnie, however, has reimagined Groudon as a massive Flying and Ground-type Pokemon. The fan-designed Groundora is described simply as a “floating island.” Almost coinciding with the original lore, Groundora is a massive chunk of Earth, but unlike the original Groudon, the Flying-type nature of this creature has caused it to become a levitating mass so big other smaller Pokemon inhabit it. The artist has recently created other similar pieces, liketransforming Kyogre into a Psychic-typefor example.

Primal Groudon already ranks amongthe biggest Pokemon in existence, but Groundora looks to tower over even the largest creature in the series. Perhaps due to its massive size, its Pokedex entry states that it cannot be captured in a Poke Ball. Not to mention, its ability “Continental” is aptly named.

JJonie is no stranger to creative pieces ofPokemonfan art like this. In addition to the aforementioned Kyogre transformation, the talentedartist has created alternate forms of Meowscaradaamong many other notable designs. Like Legendary Pokemon, starters and their respective evolutions are also popular inspirations for fan art. This artist, however, certainly has a talent for creating pocket monsters that feel right at home with the rest of the creatures from The Pokemon Company.

It’s not just the artistic talent that is impressive either. The thought and attention that went into the lore aspects are also remarkable. On top of everything, they even give fans a look at what the reimagined Legendary would look like as a shiny Pokemon. When it comes toPokemon, there is certainly no shortage of amazing fan artists, and JJonnie consistently delivers eye-popping creatures with detailed Pokedex entries.
