Summary

Pokemongames have many things going on with each new release that can create a new, unique environment where players can explore and enjoy new experiences in terms of gameplay, stories told, and strategic team-building. Typically, no game is like its predecessor, which holds especially true for the modern entries in the series, such asPokemon Legends: Arceusand the currently active Gen 9 withPokemon Scarlet and Violetand their expansions. For example, one of the universally well-received aspects of Gen 9 is thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetadded many unused type combosin the game, and Gen 10 should do the same to keep team-building options growing as well as pocket monster variety - and a great place to start would be a Rock/Ghost Pokemon.

It’s unclear whether the next set of mainline games will drop due to the backlash surrounding Gen 9’s technical and performance issues on launch and the conversation that followed regarding deadlines, butPokemonGen 10 could break several traditions for the franchise, cementing itself as another unique set of games. A good way to achieve this would be to build on the foundations laid byPokemon Scarlet and Violetwhile also trying something entirely new. To do this, Gen 10 has the perfect blueprint for a Rock/Ghost Pokemon to kill two birds with one stone.

Why a Fossil Rock/Ghost Pokemon Would be Perfect for Gen 10

A Rock/Ghost Fossil Pokemon Could be What The Series Needs

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetbroke a long-time streak with Fossil Pokemon, as the base game featured no in-game Fossils nor ways to get these unique critters from past titles, and it also didn’t come with new mons either. Not only that, but The Indigo Disk DLC added tons of returning Pokemon to the game, but it only came with overworld spawns of both Cranidos and Shieldon, scrapped Fossil items altogether, and also made these pocket monsters version exclusive.

PokemonGen 10 gamescould add Fossils back into the series with a new spin. This time, players could find Fossils as overworld spawns rather than items, with one of them being a new species entirely that appears as an actual item, but when the battle starts it forms a full figure of the creature it was when it was alive, and it could be the first-ever Rock/Ghost Pokemon. Such a concept would be revolutionary, helping Gen 10 stand its ground even after the trailblazers that werePokemon Scarlet and Violet, and it would also lend itself to become the perfect rendition of a Rock and Ghost creature.

Fossil Pokemon Are Usually Rock-Type

The Fossil Pokemon in the series often have Rock as one of their types due to the nature of real-world fossils and howPokemontypes work, so it would only make sense to feature a pocket monster that appears as floating bones and then as a full-blown spirit-like creature as a Rock/Ghost Pokemon. There are various benefits to having theunused Rock/Ghost Pokemon typecombo in Gen 10, and making it a Fossil Pokemon would also be a fun gimmick for a category of critters that have had otherwise inconsistent representation in the series.

Dracozolt, Arctozolt, Dracovish, and Arctovish are the only Fossil Pokemon to not have Rock as their type, with them being a combination of Dragon, Electric, Ice, and Water based on the combination of fossils used.

A Rock/Ghost Fossil Pokemon would be the perfect way to bring fossils back into the series with a bang, and so given that Fossil Pokemon are normally brought back to life from their own fossils, having Ghost as a secondary type is coherent with their design. Rock and Ghost is one of the remaining9 unused type combinations inPokemongames, so adding it with Gen 10 games would cross another item off the list.
