The most anticipated event of the season is, however,Pokemon GOFest 2023, which will mark the debut of Mega Rayquaza in the game. Rayquaza is the Dragon/Flying-type that formsPokemon’s Gen 3 Legendary triowith Kyoge and Groudon. InPokemon GO, Mega Rayquaza debuts first in in-person raids at events in London, Osaka, and New York City. Any player can challenge Mega Rayquaza, but only ticket holders will get Mega Energy. Mega Rayquaza will move on to make its global debut in raids on Sunday, June 27, duringPokemon GOFest 2023: Global. Players who attack a gym or raid with Mega Rayquaza will get a bonus that increases the damage of Pokemon challenging the same raid/gym. After Mega Evolving Rayquaza, players will receive additional XP and Candy when catching Flying-, Psychic-, or Dragon-type Pokemon.
Unlike other Pokemon, Rayquaza doesn’t Mega Evolve only with Mega Energy. To Mega Evolve Rayquaza, players will need to teach the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent first, and the only way to do that is by using the new Meteorite item. Ticket-holding players can complete an exclusive Special Research story atPokemon GOFest in-person events and earn Meteorite. In the global portion ofPokemon GOFest, players who log in on Sunday will receive a short Special Research story that gives Meteorite when completed. Mega Rayquaza’s arrival is the second major debut ofPokemon GOFest after Niantic confirmed thatDiancie is finally coming toPokemon GO.
Rayquaza is one of the Legendary Pokemon available only inPokemon GOraids, as are other fan favorites like Lugia and Mewtwo. With the debut of the variant of one ofPokemon GO’s best Dragon-types,Pokemon GOFest becomes even more interesting for all players. While those who have a ticket will receive more perks, the event promises fun content even for players who won’t be able to attend the in-person events.
