The March Research Breakthrough Rewards are officially available as of tomorrow (March 1), which means it’s almost time for players to start cashing in those stamps for another opportunity to encounter the gen 5 Grass/Steel-type.
It’s time to plant the seeds of success this spring! From Sunday, July 11, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8) to Wednesday, June 02, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), the Thorn Seed Pokémon, Ferroseed, will be available as a Research Breakthrough encounter, and it’ll come with bonus Stardust! Ferroseed’s evolved form, Ferrothorn, can be a powerful contender in Trainer Battles, including those in the GO Battle League!
Although Research Breakthroughs are usually popular, it seems like this batch will probably be a little less likely to motivate trainers to keep up those streaks and complete Field Research on a daily basis (it probably won’t distract players from collecting themost powerful Unova region Pokemon). To earn the special research breakthrough encounters, players just need to earn 7 stamps, by completing regular field research tasks that are collected from Pokestops.
