Summary

Pokemon ScarletandPokemon Violet’s worm Pokemon Dipplin could be getting an evolution in a future DLC or game, according to new rumors. Leaks surrounding upcomingPokemonDLC releases and games are common, but parsing through fan-made fakes can be tedious. When the source of the rumor is an official app likePokemon Home, however, that’s much more enticing. That doesn’t necessarily mean thisPokemon ScarletandVioletrumor is guaranteed, though.

In thePokemonfranchise, there’s an item known asEviolite that was first introduced inPokemon BlackandWhite. Eviolite is an item that a Pokemon can hold that boosts its Defense and Special Defense, so long as it is not fully evolved. It’s a way for un-evolved Pokemon to hold their own against evolved Pokemon attacks, to a degree. It also means that if a Pokemon is able to hold an Eviolite, it means that the Pokemon is able to evolve further. If it can’t hold an Eviolite, it has no further evolutions.

InPokemon Home, the profile for Dipplin has revealed some interesting information. The profile includes various details about Dipplin including what items it can hold. Those items include an Eviolite. The implication is that if Dipplin can hold an Eviolite, it has an evolution. But if Dipplin does not currently have an evolution, then surely it must be receiving one in the near future.Pokemon ScarletandVioletplayers believe that means Dipplin’s evolution may be revealed before long.

Currently, the worm Pokemon Dipplin has no evolutions.Dipplin is one of Applin’s potential evolutions, with the others being Appletun and Flapple. Dipplin has always been an odd evolution for Applin, however. It looks like a middle evolution, it doesn’t Gigantimax like Appletun and Flapple, and it was announced and released much later than its sibling evolutions. That’s always led to theories that Dipplin will get an evolution.

Some fans have also brought up that this isn’t the first time this has happened. Usaring allegedly also was able to hold an Eviolite before its evolution Ursaluna was eventually introduced. That would substantiate the idea that a Pokemon without an evolutionbeing able to hold Eviolite onPokemon Homemeans that an evolution could be forthcoming.

As for when Dipplin’s rumored evolution could arrive, that’s a more difficult question to answer. While the leading theory would be Dipplin’s evolution arriving inPokemon ScarletandViolet’s second DLC, that isn’t a certainty. It’s possible that the evolution could arrive further down the line, potentially in the next main seriesPokemongames. It could also be true that Dipplin had an evolution but plans for it faltered. That would mean no Dipplin evolution is in the works. Fans will just have to be patient and wait for clarification from Game Freak in the months to come.
