ThePokemon X/YGrass-type starter, Chespin, can now be obtained inPokemon ScarletandPokemon Violet. Its final evolution is Chesnaught, a Grass/Fighting-type. While it may not be as popular as the other Kalos starters, Froakie and Fennekin, the Chespin-line’s TM learn pool can make it quite versatile in battle.
Adding a Chespin to the team (or PC Box) inPokemonScarlet/Violetwill require taking part in a 7-star Raid, or the help ofPokemon HOMEandPokemon GO. Trainers that want a Chespin at the start of their journey will need to transfer one fromPokemon GO. Those that don’t mind waiting should first completeS/V’s main story and post game.
Updated on Jul 16, 2025 by Renri Seong:Chespin is the Grass-type starter of the Kalos region, and when it reaches its final evolution, it becomes the Grass/Fighting-type Chesnaught. Before the release ofPokemon Scarlet & Violet’sIndigo Disk DLC, Chespin and its evolutions were compatible withScarlet/Violet, but were unable to be caught anywhere in Paldea or Kitakami (Teal Mask). WithIndigo Disk, it is now possible to find and catch Chespin in Terarium. However, getting Chespin to appear will require a large amount of Blueberry Points (BP). You’ll also want to be in the postgame ofScarlet/Violet’s main story. The following guide has been updated to include methods of obtaining Chespin inIndigo Diskwithout transferring or trading.
Where to Find Chespin (Indigo Disk)
How to Evolve Chespin
Finding Chespin in the wild, like the other Kalos starters, is locked to theIndigo Disk DLC. If you want to be able to go to Terarium/Blueberry Academy, you will need to complete the following:
- Indigo Disk’s Terarium unlocks after completing the three main story quests. However, if you haven’t started the postgame, you will belocked off from story-related eventsin the DLC. This means you won’t be able to go to the League Club, which you will need if you wantChespin and other starter Pokemon. So, make sure you complete “The Way Home” as well.
you may find Chespin inChargestone Cavern, but only if you’ve contributed3000BPto theTerarium Clubfor theCanyon Biome. Blueberry Points, or BP for short, are a type of currency that you gain from completingBlueberry Quests (BBQs). Since BBQs give out small BP for beginner quests, it may take you some time before you can farm up to 3000BP. You’ll also need to set aside150BP to take on the Elite Fourin Indigo Disk if you have not yet completed the Indigo Disk’s story.
Once you have enough, you can do the following:
After contributing the required amount of BP, go toChargestone Cavernto look for Chespin. you’re able to enter Chargestone Cavern by following the pathsouthwest of Central Plaza, orsouth from the Polar Outdoor Classroom 1in thePolar Biome. You can start by looking near the Chargestone Cavern fast-travel point (if you’ve discovered it).
Evolving Chespin
Chespin evolves into Quilladin atlevel 16, and Quilladin evolves into Chesnaught atlevel 36. The Chespin caught in Terarium will be way above their evolution level. To trigger the evolutions, you’ll need to level it up once as Chespin, then once more as Quilladin.
How to Get Chespin without Indigo Disk
Transfer & Trade
Those without the Indigo Disk DLC, or if you want to transfer without spending BP, can obtain Chespin and its evolutions through the following:
Catch Chespin in Pokemon GO (Transfer with Pokemon HOME)
BothPokemon GOandPokemon HOMEare free to download. If players want to transfer Pokemon fromGOtoHOME, then they’ll need to haveHOMEon their Nintendo Switch. They’ll also need tolink theirHOMEaccount onGO.This can be done by doing the following onPokemon GO:
IfGOtrianers are transferring, then they’ll need to follow steps 1-3, then selectSend Pokemon. As long as players have enoughGO Transport Energy, they can send as many as they want. Each Pokemon have different levels of Transport Energy, so keep this in mind when selecting them.
Event Pokemon and Shadow Pokemoncannotbe transferred toHOME. Some examples of Event Pokemon are the New Year’s Pikachu and the Holiday Spheal.
Chespin tends to appear duringSunny WeatherorClear Weather. Players may have more luck finding a Chespin during the spring or summer than they would in the fall or winter. Sometimes Niantic hosts events called “Spotlight Hour,” which is when a select species of Pokemon will appear more frequently in the wild - regardless of weather. This will make it easier to find Chespin, but only if it’s beenselected for the Spotlight Hour.
Scarlet/Violetplayers don’t need to pay for thePokemon HOMEsubscription just to use its basic features. However, they’ll only haveone Basic Boxto store Pokemon intoHOME.
Once players start upScarlet/Violet, they can check their Boxes from the menu (X-button) and Chespin can be found wherever it was placed.
