Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC may not have been as ground-breaking as the base Gen 9 games, but it does seem like it is building up the story of The Indigo Disk expansion, following the character arc of Kieran and all-new characters alike. This is likely true of thePokemon in The Teal Maskas well, with the Loyal Three allegedly having a “master” that originally gave them their Toxic Chain Ability when it granted them their new powers. Considering that multiple leaks have surfaced regarding the second DLC forPokemon Scarlet and Violet, it doesn’t come as a surprise that The Indigo Disk will include several new critters - possibly including the first-ever Bug/Dragon Pokemon.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetadded many critters that had some of theunused type combos inPokemongames, such as Iron Hands and Pawmot being Electric/Fighting and Iron Valiant being Fighting/Fairy. Gen 9 broke the mold in multiple ways, which bodes well for future games and what they’ll bring to the series, but it also shows the potential of its second DLC. The Indigo Disk is already slated for breaking a few major traditions, such as including a second set of Elite Four and making all past starters available, and a Bug/Dragon Pokemon could be yet another way to achieve this.

Dipplin’s Evolution in The Indigo Disk Could be a Bug/Dragon Pokemon

The current theory is that The Indigo Disk will not only feature a Dipplin evolution, but that it will give up its Grass type for Bug, while retaining Dragon. Even without leaks and rumors, the possibility that theDipplin will evolve in The Indigo Diskseems all but confirmed by The Teal Mask itself, since the pocket monster can use the Eviolite as a held item, which is normally reserved for creatures that are not fully evolved, giving them extra Defense and Special Defense.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetfinally featuring a Bug/Dragon-type would be a dream come true for many fans, especially since monsters like Flygon and Yanmega would have both made sense with that combination. However, it would also be a great treat to see Dipplin’s evolution get that type, since some may not expect it to evolve in the first place, and then also change its type and gain a new one. It’s already been speculated that after all the leaks from a renownedPokemoninsider, called Riddler Khu,Dipplin’s evolution inPokemon Scarlet and Violetmight have seven heads.

This would make sense after seeing that Dipplin’s Pokedex entry describes the critter as made by two different wyrms inhabiting the candy apple, with the evolution possibly including a total of seven of them inside the one apple. Furthermore, when trying to make Dipplin remember a move inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, players can teach it Infestation - a Bug-type move that traps the user for seven turns. The number seven gives further credibility to the leaks, in this context, but the most important detail is that neither Flapple nor Appletun (the other two Applin evolutions) can learn Infestation.

The fact that Infestation is a Bug-type move exclusive to Dipplin within its evolutionary line seems to build an even stronger case for its evolution to be Bug/Dragon, but what further cements this possibility is Khu’s latest riddle. Here, they simply ask “Which?” with two images following - one for the Grass type and the other for Bug.The Indigo Disk is breaking traditionin multiple ways, and it wouldn’t be a shock to discover that it is also adding a never-before-seen type combination inPokemongames, one that makes sense if Dipplin’s wyrms start “infesting” the apple, maybe making it rotten.
