Summary

Despite its name, thePokemon ScarletandVioletDLC The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero aims to take players outside of Paldea’s borders. In the first part of the DLC releasing on September 13, fans will get to explore Kitakami, a place where folktales come to life. In the second part, players attend Blueberry Academy for a time and get to know the trainers at the school, including its very own miniature league, the BB League.

While not much is known about the BB League just yet, fans can at least expect it to function with four trials like thePaldean Gym Leader’sown tests before players could battle them. As a result, players can take on Blueberry Academy’s own Elite Four members with each completed trial. As exciting as it may be thatPokemon ScarletandVioletare getting their own post-game Elite Four, it’s understandable why some players might have some concerns. It’s hard to look forward to a secondary Elite Four when, to many, the first Elite Four wasn’t that challenging.

How Players Reacted to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Elite Four

InPokemon ScarletandViolet, a unique approach was taken when it came to the Paldea Pokemon League. Three out of the four of them double as teachers at the school the player goes to, with fan-favorite Larry even being a teacher, Gym Leader, and an Elite Four member all at the same time. Fans also get to meet withLeague Chairwoman and Champion Geetaa number of times before meeting her and battling her.

Meeting the Elite Four early may not have succeeded in building up grand battles in the player’s future. Many fans felt as if the Elite Four were lacking, even falling flat as many trainers felt that Champion Geeta was incredibly weak after the battles prior. Some even felt that the order of battles was backward and thatRika should have been the championinstead, and that compared to the other parts ofScarletandVioletthe Elite Four was the most underwhelming.

What The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero’s BB League Needs to Do Better

The reception to the Elite Four inPokemon ScarletandVioletdepends on the player, but there are some key things that The Indigo Disk should keep in mind to make fighting these trainers interesting and worthwhile. One of these is that the BB League should be mindful of where it sits in terms of playtime. When it comes to the Pokemon League’s Elite Four, part of the reason as to why the teams weren’t too taxing may have been because their battles, along with Champion Geeta, were considered part of the Victory Road storyline. As a result, their teams may have come off as rather easy as they were only stepping stones to prepare players for the final events in Area Zero.

Due to the fact that players can’t access the Indigo Disk DLC and storyline until they’ve cleared the main game, the BB League doesn’t have this restriction. In fact, if the Pokemon Presents trailers are anything to go by, it’s possible thatthe BB League’s Elite Fourare the main goal of the Indigo Disk’s storyline, which practically demands that they have dynamic, challenging teams to counteract how many players will likely be above level 70 at this point at the very least.

As The Indigo Disk is aiming to add some new features that might shake up the current meta of competitivePokemon, it invites the BB League to use these new features to its advantage to potentially include them in the Elite Four’s teams. If Game Freak decides to use the BB League as a crash course for all the new possibilities being brought in with the DLC, includingthe nineteenth Pokemon type, then the BB League may be just the challenge fans are looking for.
