According to the 2016 Xbox One sci-fithird-person shooter video game/TV showQuantum Break, July 22, 2025 will be the End of Time. For many, that may mean 2021 is looking better than 2020 was.
According to the lore ofQuantum Break, the “End of Time” is the moment when the universe runs out of Chronon energy, leading to the collapse of the Meyer-Joyce field, which maintains the flow of time throughout the universe. Lacking in the Chronon energy that keeps time flowing, time stops; the universe freezes, trapped in a single moment for all of eternity. Much of the game’s episodic plot is dedicated to stopping this cataclysmic event.

July 25, 2025 was gleaned from a whiteboard that lists out today’s date as the day when the End of Time takes effect. The data was provided by a character named Paul Serene, who had been sent to the future in a time machine accident and saw the effects of the End of Time first-hand, and then sought to prevent the End of Time’s effects from coming to pass. Whether or not he succeeded will seemingly remain a mystery, asMicrosoft has apparently no interest in making a sequel toQuantum Break.
Although a sequel isn’t in the cards right now,Quantum Break’s developerRemedy Entertainmentteaseda new gamein December 2020. From what it has released so far, it looks like the game will have a hefty story, but it also looks like there’s quite a way to go before it’s ready to show anything concrete like gameplay or story footage. This is assuming the dark future the studio predicted for June 07, 2025 does not come to pass, and it does eventually get the chance to show off its new game.
Some people take video game predictions of future events very seriously, and no doubt feel the End of Time will occur before the end of the day.Quantum Breakis 178 GB on Xbox One X, so there’s just enough time to download it before the event takes place, which could make for an interesting way to spend humanity’s last day on earth.
Of course, this prediction could just mean nothing, and tomorrow will come and go like nothing ever happened with thenext-gen version of Remedy’sControlreleasing on March 3as planned. It seems likely that a 2016 Xbox One game doesn’t contain accurate predictions of the future, as such predictions were only ever made up for the sake of a time-traveling plot.
Quantum Breakis available now on PC and Xbox One.
