Overwatch 2is a game still shrouded in a lot of mystery with fans not even having a release date to look forward to. However, with a story mode being included in this upcoming title, a lot of mysteries provided by the originalOverwatchmay finally be answered. With 32 playable heroes currently available inOverwatchand possibly many more coming inOverwatch 2, there are many stories and backgrounds to these characters. Some of these have been expanded in animated shorts, lore videos, and comics.

Hopefully when the new title is released, the following questions will be properly answered or even shown for both players and fans alike.

How Did McCree Lose His Hand?

Jesse McCree is one of the original heroesthat was made available to players whenOverwatchwas released to the public. This futuristic cowboy was a member of Overwatch’s Blackwatch team before it was disbanded. Players may notice McCree’s left arm is made of cybernetics in his default skin, as well as many of his alternate ones. However, player may have also noticed thatMcCree’s skinsthat depict him as being younger have his arm being made of flesh and bone.

Additionally, McCree has voice line interactions with Torbjorn and Genji that discuss McCree’s missing arm. Only theinteraction with Torbjornhas someone question what happened to McCree’s arm, but he dodges the question with a joke. What happened to his arm isn’t explained in-game or through any of the expanded universe stories or comics. While other characters have cybernetic limbs, McCree is one of the few characters to have its loss questioned in-game. Hopefully, this means that this limb loss will be explained inOverwatch 2.

Overwatch Ana Reaper Comic

What Does Reaper’s Face Look Like?

ManyOverwatchplayers already know what Reaper looked like becoming the Reaper with his previous identity of Gabriel Reyes. However, the question of what’s behind Reaper’s mask isn’t about what Reaper looks like when made of flesh and bone. This is about what Reaper’s face looks like currently. While some players may just assume that Reaper looks like how he did when living as Gabriel Reyes, the officialOverwatchcomic “Old Soldiers” showsAna’s reactionto what’s under the mask, while also knowing that Reaper is what remains of Reyes.

With Ana already knowing Reaper’s identity as well as her usual ability to keep calm, what liesunder Reaper’s maskmust be something truly horrifying. What’s under the mask is clearly no longer resembling Reyes or his face has become so corrupted by Moira’s experiments that it would frighten even Ana. Reaper’s face under the mask will hopefully be seen by fans and players inOverwatch 2and it could even appear as a special skin. Hopefully the answer to this question won’t disappoint fans and will be reasonably disturbing.

Overwatch Sombra Short

What is the Global Conspiracy?

Sombra has always been a mysterious character inOverwatch. From up to her proper reveal, she’s been the subject of speculation among fans. As one ofthe best hackers in the worldofOverwatch, she has information on the majority, if not all, of the characters in the series. Being a part of Talon, this information can be very dangerous for those still active in the world that want to take Talon down. However, Sombra has shown that she has goals that expand far past Talon.

When she was younger, Sombra stumbled upon a sort of “global conspiracy” that seemed to be controlling everything in the world. However, she was also discovered by them and was forced to completely wipe her own identity to save herself. However, her efforts to research this conspiracy never stopped even when she was hired by Talon. As seen in one of her shorts, Sombra acts outside her orders with Talon in order to further her own goals. This can be presumed to be all related to researching the conspiracy.

This “global conspiracy” could end up being theendgame villain forOverwatch 2if more is discovered about it. Considering that Sombra has friends inside and outside of Talon, she may be the link to getting all of the playable characters in the game to team up to take down this conspiracy.

Overwatch Widowmaker Sniping

Is Widowmaker’s Brainwashing Wearing Off?

Widowmaker, orAmelie Lacroix, was the wife of deceased Overwatch sniper Gérard Lacroix. After being kidnapped and brainwashed by Talon, Widowmaker was instructed to kill her husband. Of course, she followed orders before going back to Talon and becoming their best sniper. ThroughoutOverwatchand through expanded universe materials, Widowmaker has shown to have repressed emotions almost completely outside of the joy she gets while killing. The few exceptions come with her voice line interaction with Tracer, expressing her annoyance with the pilot.

However, if Widowmaker is truly stuck as a cold-blooded killer without the need for regret or emotions that could get in the way, then why is she shown leaving a flower at her dead husband’s grave during the Christmas comic, “Retribution?”

Overwatch Widowmaker Comic

If she is truly emotionless, it is very strange for her to see her husband on Christmas. It can be presumed that this is a common thing, but considering thatWidowmaker is shownwith her recon visor in this panel, it’s possible that she’s prepared for something during her visit.

With this in mind, it’s possible thatWidowmaker’s brainwashinghas started to wear off, but she’s playing along to avoid being experimented on more by Moira or being killed. The first character to find this information out would likely be Sombra, considering how she likes to keep tabs on everyone, but it could be possible for Tracer to be the one to help save Widowmaker.

Considering the two have a very rough history, the two could end up growing closer ifTracer helps break throughWidowmaker’s conditioning duringOverwatch 2’s story. This panel either way seems important enough that it would be a waste to just have Widowmaker end her story stuck as a brainwashed villain. The themes of Overwatch are overall optimistic, so it seems very possible for a redemption arc to be on its way inOverwatch 2.

Overwatch 2is set to launch in 2020 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
