One eagle-eyedResident Evil 4player recently discovered a reliable method of making Chapter 15 somewhat easier to tackle. The nature of their discovery won’t be of much help to speedrunners, but it does underline some greatattention to detail that went into the remaking ofResident Evil 4.
Being near the end of theResident Evil 4remake’s level list, Chapter 15 is one of the most challenging sections of Capcom’s newest survival horror. At this point, the game is throwing everything it has at the player, starting with multiple groups of deadly Ganado soldiers armed with everything from crossbows and rocket launchers to machine gun turrets. These garrisons will be encountered throughout the level all the way to the Sanctuary, the final area in Chapter 15.

But as discovered by Reddit user DarkSideRT, taking on the Ganado soldiers guarding the Sanctuary can actually be much easier than it might appear. Namely, it turns out that this sizable group of enemies spawns as soon as the level itself loads and can hence be sniped from Chapter 15’s starting location. Due to the immense distance between that area and the Sanctuary entrance, doing so will ideally require theResident Evil 4remake’s Stingray sniper rifleequipped with a High-power Scope upgrade that allows for 3x zoom.
Irrespective of this long-range combat opportunity, the Stingray Rifle is already widely considered to be among thebest early weapon upgrade candidates inResident Evil 4. And while its variable zoom scope might not offer as much value compared to upgrading the rifle’s rate of power, ammo capacity, reloading speed, or stopping power, it seems to be a worthy investment for anyone struggling with fighting their way to the Chapter 15 Sanctuary.
The Stingray Rifle can be purchased from the mysterious merchant from Chapter 7 onwards and is priced at 30,000 pesetas. The High-power Scope is actually available even earlier, starting from Chapter 4. It’s priced at 7 spinel and can be attached to all rifles in theResident Evil 4remake, so players could also attempt sniping the Sanctuary garrison using something like the SR M1903.
That notwithstanding, the Stingray Rifle is likely a better option in this particular scenario due to the sheer number of enemies guarding the entrance to the final Chapter 15 destination. Not least because it offers semi-auto capabilities, hence being more suitable for long-distance disposal of larger groups. Its lower damage compared to the SR M1903 can hence be mitigated with headshots, or failing that, a barrage of bullets.
Resident Evil 4is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
