Just because there is no E3 this year doesn’t mean there aren’t many big gaming announcements to get excited about. The Summer Game Fest goes live tomorrow, with over 30 companies participating in events this month. This includesResident Evil 4developer Capcom, who’ll conclude the festivities with its showcase on the 13th.

The Capcom showcase will focus on updates to already announced games. This includes the remake ofResident Evil 4, which the developer just confirmed it will feature during the live-streamed showcase on Monday.

This confirmation comes courtesy of the officialResident Evil 4Twitter account. The tweet and accompanying teaser trailer didn’t offer much new information beyond the announcement itself. However, it seems like fans may be getting a relatively in-depth breakdown of the upcoming remake. Unfortunately, it’s unclear how much gameplay Capcom will be ready to show off during the event. Hopefully, the developers will have something substantial forResident Evil 4fans to check out.

Resident Evil 4is notable for having a somewhat distant connection to the preceding games. It followsreturningResident Evilcharacter Leon Kennedyon his mission to rescue the President’s daughter Ashley from an isolated village in rural Spain. He arrives to find the villagers infected by a grotesque parasite and ruled over by a dangerous cult called Los Iluminados. The plot ofResident Evil 4only ties back to the series’ storyline in its final act, and the gameplay puts a heavier focus on action combat than survival horror.

Capcom announced that it was remakingRE4during a PlayStation State of Play livestream on June 2nd.TheResident Evil 4trailershowed how the new graphics enhanceRE4’screepy atmosphere. However, players shouldn’t expect an exact 1-to-1 translation. For example, the remake’s website says it will feature “modernized” gameplay and a “reimagined” storyline.

Interestingly, a few moments in the trailer give the impression that players may spend some portion of theResident Evil 4remake controlling Ashley. The most notable scene comes after the trailer’s 1:05 mark, where the camera settles behind her into a third-person perspective. This may just be an added flourish to liven up the trailer, but it looks very similar to how many third-person games signal the transition from cutscene to player control. If so, making Ashely playable might be a way to rehabilitate a character that many consider one of the most annoying NPCs in gaming.

However, that’s just an inference based on limited information, not something officially confirmed. Fortunately, fans don’t have too long to wait until the Capcom showcase, which starts at 6 PM EDT/3 PM PDT on the 13th. Hopefully, it will include plenty of new information aboutthe upcomingResident Evil 4remake.

TheResident Evil 4remake releases for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 24th, 2023.
