A rumored newStar Foxgame may never have existed despite an elaborate story that made some Nintendo fans speculate on a pending announcement. Since the Super Nintendo,Star Foxhas gained in popularity, but a new entry in the series hasn’t been released in several years which has left some wondering the next time they’ll see the titular hero again.
Because of how long theStar Foxfranchise has been around, it has accumulated many fans even though some titles have sold worse than others. Going beyond theStar Foxseries, several characters have made the jump toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatelike Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi, and Wolf O’Donnell. AlthoughStarlink: Battle for Atlashad a brief campaign featuring theStar Foxheroes, the series has gone largely ignored sinceStar Fox ZeroandStar Fox Guardlaunched in 2016 despite some fans hopingfor Nintendo Switch ports.

DidYouKnowGaming has done several deep dives into retro games and some that never released, revealing details about their stories leading up to a cancelation.Star Fox Grand Prixwas a rumored title for years in which fans speculated on whatRetro Studios was developing for Nintendoafter the release ofDonkey Kong: Tropical Freeze. DidYouKnowGaming has confirmed with multiple sources thatStar Fox Grand Prixwas only ever an elaborate story, and was never a Retro Studios game that existed. Based on the report, theStar Fox Grand Prixlogo was created by Twitch streamer RogersBase who used theStar Fox Guardlogo as a template.
Former Senior Director of Development Bryan Walker stated that he sometimes wished that Retro Studios was “working on as many cool things as the fans” think. According to an anonymous Retro Studios employee,Star Foxhas seen a few pitches over the years sinceZeroandGuardreleased, butStar Fox Grand Prixwas never brought to the table.Star Foxhas seen at least one pitched title denied since 2016 which is known asStar Fox Armada, and it was expected to follow up on the critically acclaimedStar Fox 64which can be played todayon Nintendo Switch Online.
There have been a couple of reasons given for the fake rumor, like Nintendo fans confusingStar FoxinStarlink: Battle for Atlas, or Nintendo of America intentionally releasing a fake leak, but it’s unclear what happened. While Nintendo was never working on aStar Foxracing game, it’s possible that Fox and other characters from the developer may end up in afutureMario Karttitle.
