The team behind theGod of Warfranchise is seemingly on the hunt for people to help create the next entry in the franchise. Santa Monica Studios, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony, releasedGod of War Ragnarokin November 2022, capping off the story started in the 2018God of Wargame.
Although it missed out on the coveted Game of the Year award toElden Ring,God of War Ragnarokwas a critical hitwhen it hit the shelves for PS5 and PS4. Praise was levied at the rich narrative, distinct characters, and engaging combat. Now it seems Santa Monica is wanting to quickly build on that success by beginning the recruitment process for what is expected to be the next entry in a franchise that started life in 2005 on the PlayStation 2.

According to a recent job listing on Santa Monica’s website, the Sony-owned studio looks to be on the lookout for developers to join the team for the nextGod of Warentry. The listing is for a Senior Combat Designer to companions; a mechanic that was first introduced inGod of War Ragnarokwhere players could unlock skills for Kratos’ companion to help with battling tough enemies. The successful candidate is expected to have at least 4 years of experience in developing games and be able to talk in-depth about combat systems, mechanics, and enemies.
The listing itself may be for a wholly new combat-based game, however, with the listing specifically requiring “a knowledge ofGod of War(2018) andGod of War Ragnarok(2022)” along with the systems introduced during the most recent outing, it would seem to indicate that theGod of Warstory is far from over.
Fans will likely be excited to delve back into the mythos surrounding the franchise, but it is worth noting thatRagnarok’s art director moved on from Sonyso a release will be years away while the studio looks to backfill key roles before the game kicks into full production.
However long a new entry into the franchise takes, it is likely not to bother some fans. Not only didRagnarokgarner praise from critics and fans when it was released, but the latestGod of Wartitle smashed through significant milestonesfor both Sony and Santa Monica, showing there is still an appetite for Kratos.
God of War Ragnarokis available now on PS4 and PS5.
