While the Dragonborn’s primary goal inThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis to put a stop to Alduin and his fellow dragons, they are also free to pursue a variety of different side quests. The world of Skyrim is chock-full of optional content, but it isn’t the only place in the game where side quests can be pursued.

Not only doesSkyrim’sDragonbornDLC give players a new main questline, but it also grants them access toSolstheim, an entirely new areain which multiple side quests can be pursued.“March of the Dead"is one such quest, and it can be started almost immediately upon the Dragonborn’s first visit to Solstheim.

At Raven Rock, players should turn southeast and head through the gate leading outside. Following the path south, they will eventually spot a man being attacked bythree Ash Spawns, new enemies that can only be found on Solstheim. Upon defeating these foes, the man, namedCaptain Veleth, will thank the Dragonborn for their help.

According to Captain Veleth, the Ash Spawn have become a pretty big problem in Solstheim, and he needs help figuring out what their purpose is. Agreeing to help him find out, the Dragonborn mustinvestigate the Ash Pilesleft behind by the Ash Spawns to find a letter entitled"Declaration of War.“Speaking to Captain Veleth once more, he will ask the Dragonborn to travel to a nearby Ash Spawn-riddled fortress andkill General Falx Carius.

The Dragonborn needs to travel toFort Frostmothto progress the quest. To reach this location, players should continue heading south and theneast up the nearby hill. Proceeding east from this point leads directly to the fort;the entrance can be found on the northern wall. Once inside, the door to Fort Frostmoth’s interior can be reached by traveling to the western wall.

Inside Fort Frostmoth, the Dragonborn should take the path leading north and descend into the next room. Directly ahead is aMaster Locked gate, behind which aBoss Chestcan be found. To the right is the door leading to General Falx Carius, but it can only be opened with the appropriate key.

Tofind the key, players should turn north from the door and head down into the cave below. Turning left and heading into the large room full of coffins, the Dragonborn can search theKnapsackon the ground next to the two central coffins to find theFort Frostmoth Key.

Finding the Fort Frostmoth Key in Skyrim

Backtracking to the door to General Falx Carius, the Fort Frostmoth Key can be used to get inside. Upon entering, General Falx Carius will attack and will also summon Ash Spawn to aid him. Once he has been defeated, the Dragonborn can loot his body to acquire theChampion’s Cudgel, a unique weapon that improves fire, frost, and shock damage.

Once General Falx Carius has been defeated, the player should fast-travel back to Raven Rock and speak to Captain Veleth to end the quest. As a reward, Veleth willgive the Dragonborn 7,500 Gold.
