For those who like a mixture of fantasy and science fiction, there’s a new mod forSkyrimthat essentially adds in the laser blasters fromStar Warsso fans can have a bit of George Lucas' universe within Tamriel. It can’t really be overstated justhow influentialThe Elder Scrolls 5has been, especially in the RPG genre. It may have aged at this point, having originally released back in 2011, but its impact on the AAA gaming industry is still being felt to this day.

When it comes to video game franchises, it’s possible for two or more worlds to collide to form some sort of super game.Capcom has been known to release crossoversin its time, blending multiple titles from its back catalog. A recent example comes from Nexus Mods user Kittytail, whoseSkyrimmod “Lasers (Magicka Blasters)” brings a little bit ofStar WarstoTES5. Essentially, it adds the blasters from the legendary sci-fi series, allowing fans of the Bethesda RPG to do a bit of “pew pew-ing” when they get tired of swords and magic. The modification comes with eight laser blasters in total, which are craftable at a forge. There’s also a video that gives a brief overview of theStar Warsweapons in action, with that distinctive glow from each projectile really selling the idea. The description says there are both one-handed and two-handed blasters, with the latter benefitting from the Archery skill.

This is also not the first timeStar Warshas come into contact withSkyrim. There have been a number of occasions in which the two have met. Evidently, there is something about incorporating science-fiction elements into a high-fantasy setting. Of course, over the past 11 years or so, plenty of modders have been tinkering with theElder Scrollsformat, turning the celebrated series into a different beast entirely, which is probably whySkyrimis still so popular even after all this time.

To give some idea of just how beloved the game is today,Skyrimrecently hit 60 million sales, showing that newcomers are still wanting a piece of the Bethesda action. It’s quite phenomenal to think that a title that spans three console generations is still enjoying a huge amount of popularity. It will be interesting to see whetherThe Elder Scrolls 6will be able to boast such a legacy.
