Skyrimturns ten years old in two weeks, and Bethesda is preparing to celebrate withSkyrim: Anniversary Edition. Despite the game’s relative age, it’s still holding on to relevance much better than other similarly aged titles.
But just because it’s a beloved game by many people doesn’t mean it’s completely free of annoyances. Recently, several fans had a conversation on Reddit where they discussed their most hated enemies inSkyrim.

The discussion began with Reddit user Retta_Noona posting an image of 8 enemies and characters and asking which the community hated the most. Fans got to choose from the Lovecraft-inspired Seekers, goblin-like Falmer, Hagravens, insectoid Chaurus, Dragons, theDragonbornexpansion’s final bossMiraak, psychotic assassin Cicero, and the humble Wolf. Of those options, the Chaurus was the clear “winner,” with the two most upvoted threads proclaiming the chitinous monsters as the worst enemies in the game.
The source of fans' hatred will be well known to anyone who took a wrong turn down one ofSkyrim’smany Dwarven ruins. The chittering creatures have a powerful poison attack and a bite that hits like a truck. The Chaurus also have a habit of lurking in dark corners to ambush unsuspecting adventurers. Making things worse is that players will often encounter mixed groups of Chaurus and Falmer. Both are annoying enough on their own, but no one wants to get spit on by a bug whilefending off a Falmer Nightprowler.
The Chaurus were the most despised enemies by far, though there was plenty of dislike to go around. While the original poster didn’t include them, Spriggan’s and Ice Wraiths came in second and third. Spriggans love coming out of the literal woodwork while a player’s trying to enjoy the scenery. They do a lot of damage and heal themselves just when the fight seems to be coming to an end. On the other hand,Skyrim’s Ice Wraiths love hiding in the snowand are hard to see in bad weather. They’re also frustrating, fast, surprisingly powerful, and their ice attack drains the player’s stamina.
The Seekers likewise got a bit of loathing, thanks primarily to their ability to turn into mist and duplicate at low health. As one commenter pointed out, the tentacle-faced creatures might have received more hate if they were more common. The humble mud crabandSkyrim’sannoying Slaughterfishalso earned a bit of hate. While not dangerous, they love hiding nearby and blocking fast travel. Falmer, Dragons, and Draugr also received a bit of bashing for their various antics. However, nothing came close to the frustration the Chaurus have inflicted onSkyrim’splayers over the years.
Skyrim: Anniversary Editionreleases on November 11 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
