There aremany threats in the land of the Nordsthat players need to be aware of at all times. This mandates the need to prepare the Dragonborn at all times with a healthy supply of equipment, potions, scrolls, and everything else along the same lines. While this may lead to players purchasing every useful thing from a store, it’s important to avoid useless items and wasting a ton of gold in the game.
8Food & Drink
Food is one of the most common forms of loot found across Skyrim. For a game that doesn’t even have a hunger mechanic, the sheer amount of food and drink players can find in the game is quite extensive.
So, it’s easy to see why buying these items from a merchant is nothing more than a waste of money. The majority of these items are cheap, but that’s no excuse to purchase them in the first place!
7Scrolls
Scrolls are extremely expensive inSkyrim, especially given the fact thatthey can only be used once. Buying them is a total waste of gold that can be invested in other profitable ventures instead.
Scrolls can also be looted across the world of Skyrim, and they’re quite abundant as well. This makes the act of buying them even more short-sighted and a complete waste of the Dragonborn’s hard-earned gold.
6Basic Clothing
There aremany suits of armor that players will attainover the course of a playthrough inSkyrim. Players need to protect themselves at all times and their equipment is a huge part of ensuring their survival.

So, it goes without saying that buying the most basic garments around is going to completely destroy any hope of the Dragonborn surviving a hit from most enemies in the game. Outside of roleplaying purposes, there is absolutely no reason to buy common and ineffective clothing from any merchant.
5Potions & Poisons
Potions inSkyrimare quite abundant, and players can use alchemy to create the potions they want too. In fact, there are so many varieties of potions in the game that most players will end up hoarding these decoctions instead of actually using them.
As a result, the majority of potions in the game become nothing more than deadweight for resale purposes. Since these alchemical creations can be acquired in a number of ways, players are highly discouraged from spending actual money to purchase these from any alchemist in the game.
4Regular Alchemy Materials
Speaking of alchemy, it must be said that several herbs, animal parts, and other such items inSkyrimcan be found in no time flat. This makes the act of getting into alchemy pretty easy as long as players are diligent about looting.
What is definitely not smart is buying these items from alchemists and herbalists. These materials are sold at a premium and will slowly but surely eat through the Dragonborn’s hard-earned funds.
3Unremarkable Weapons & Armor
There are times when players may be tempted to purchase an eye-catching piece of equipment that can either be a durable suit of armor ora powerful weapon that turns enemies into mincemeat with each shot. However, these unique weapons aren’t all that common with most merchants.

More often than not, merchants have the most basic and ineffective pieces of equipment for sale. Suffice it to say, players should never spend a single piece of gold on their items unless they actively want to waste their hoarded fortune.
2Ores & Ingots
Players whowant to smith their own weaponswill need a ton of raw material for the same. Ores and ingots are crucial parts of the process, with these materials determining the kind of sword players will obtain.
Both ores and ingots can be found through regular exploration without too many issues. Players who decide to buy them instead will be doing nothing more than burning through their funds, especially if they have no clue what kind of weapon they even want to craft in the first place.
1Almost All Kinds Of Tools
There are pretty much only two kinds of tools inSkyrimthat are worth getting. One of them is the infinitely useful lockpick that allows players to access restricted areas and attain valuable equipment in locked chests, while the other is any quest item.
Pretty much every other kind of tool in the game is absolutely worthless and is better off avoided ifplayers don’t want to be over-encumbered in record time. While this is up for debate, buying any junk tool is easily the worst use of money in the entire game!
