Summary

WhenSpider-Man 4is released, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) might have more to worry about than his friends’ inability to remember him. Michael Mando’s Scorpion fromSpider-Man: Homecomingis rumored to return and wreak havoc.

Holland’s first foray into a soloSpider-Manfeature juggled several things. Not only was this the live-action debut of the classic villain, Vulture (Michael Keaton), but Peter was still experiencing significant growing pains. Kept on a leash by Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) technology, Peter couldn’t be a superhero in his own right, let alone go to the titular dance. On top of that,Homecominghadseveral notable Spider-Man villainsfor Peter to wrestle with.

In addition to Donald Glover’s Prowler, Scorpion (Mando) appears in the film as a buyer of Vulture’s technology. According to an online source, the villain may finally get his due in the MCU. “Guess who’s coming back that’s right Scorpion finally!”@MyTimeToShineHposted on Twitter. Accompanied by the rumor was a screenshot of Scorpion inSpider-Man: Homecoming. After his brief appearance in the film, the Scorpion has not yet appeared in the MCU, though he was propped up in an end-credit sequence.

The MCU’sSpider-Manhas featured all of Peter’s adversaries under the sun – including some from other dimensions. Scorpion, however, remained suspiciously absent. In theSpider-Man: Homecomingmid-credits scene, the Scorpion clearly stated that he blamed Spider-Man for ending up in jail. He pressed Vulture on the identity of Spider-Man, though he comes up short. It has been some time since this encounter happened, but there is no time like the present to introduce this character.

Now that the world doesn’t know who Peter Parker is, Scorpion’s interest in his identity could be more relevant than ever. Peter is sewing his own costumes and returning to street-level crime, which could make Scorpion a perfect antagonist for him tocome up against inSpider-Man 4. Should Scorpion be released or escape from prison, Spider-Man will likely be his first stop. This possibility could also add weight to the issue of his identity.

Inone of the darkestSpider-Manstoriesof the comics, Peter makes a deal similar to the one at the end ofNo Way Home. In the comics, the deal is with the Devil, but the result is the same. People forget that he is Spider-Man. If Scorpion discovers who Spider-Man is, it could be a short road to MJ (Zendaya) and Peter reuniting since she somewhat seems to remember him anyway. Viewers can dream, at least.
