Bad news for fans ofSplatoon 3’s Rainmaker mode, as Nintendo has temporarily removed the mode from the Anarchy Battle rotation. The cause of this is a bug that can alter a team’s score and give a very unfair advantage, so fans of the game’s ranked modes are going to have to content themselves with just Splat Zones, Tower Control, and Clam Blitz untilNintendois able to fix the problem with Rainmaker. In previous games, the objective of Rainmaker was pretty simple. Each team has a pedestal they’re trying to carry the titular ink cannon towards on the opposite end of the map, and whichever team gets the Rainmaker to their pedestal first, or gets closest to it before time runs out, wins the match.Splatoon 3, however, introduced an extra wrinkle to the mode in the form of a second pedestal for each team, a checkpoint they have to carry the Rainmaker to first before they can move on towards the goal.RELATED:Splatoon 3 Becomes Japan’s Best-Selling Game of 2022While this can rein in some of the unpredictability of Rainmaker by narrowing the viable paths teams can take across maps, it has unfortunately introduced a new problem that ultimately led to the mode’s removal. According to the official JapaneseSplatoonTwitter account, there’s abug inSplatoon 3that can instantly reduce a team’s score to “1” when they touch a checkpoint. Players can see this glitch in action courtesy of gameplay footage provided bySplatoondataminer OatmealDome.

For context, a team’s score goes down the closer they get to the goal, and normally only reaches 1 right as a player is about to place the Rainmaker on the pedestal. Getting to that point typically requires much skill and teamwork fromSplatoon 3playersto break through the enemy team’s defenses, and leaves opposing players with no other option but to somehow regain momentum and get the Rainmaker on their pedestal in order to win. Therefore, a bug that lets one side earn all that progress while only going half the distance is seriously detrimental, not just to the integrity of the competitive mode but players’ attempts to increase their ranks as well.

As of this writing, there’s no specific ETA for Rainmaker’s return, as Nintendo simply states that it will address the bug via an update in the near future. Hopefully that means the mode will be back in the Anarchy Battle rotation sooner rather than later. But until then, players will have to focus on other content coming toSplatoon 3soon, like the Big Run mode or next month’sPokemon ScarletandViolet-themed Splatfest.

Splatoon 3is available for Nintendo Switch.
