Rumors about a possibleSolosequel TV series were sparked off by comments from Han Solo himself, Alden Ehrenreich, in an interview with Esquire magazine. Talking about his time in the franchise and whether there was any news of a follow up toSolo: AStar WarsStory, Alden teased “I’ve heard soooome stuff, but nothing concrete.”
In a profile by Esquire magazine, Alden Ehrenreich said, “I took some time off afterSolo, just because it was basically a three-year experience from pre-production to the release of the movie.” When asked whether he’d reprise his Han Solo role he said, “It depends on what it is. It depends on how it’s done. It depends if it feels innate to the story".

Solo: A Star Wars Storywas released in 2018 after a lengthy and troubled production period. When production began,The Lego Moviedirectors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were at the helm, but were fired after a few months over creative differences to be replaced byThe Da Vinci Codedirector Ron Howard. With a budget estimated at around $250 millionSolowas one of the most expensive movies ever made.
Despite an all star cast including Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), Donald Glover (Atlanta), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), and focusing on one of the most popular characters of the franchise,Solo: A Star Wars Storyunderperformed at the box office. Even though it took a global box office of around $393 million, set against its massive production and promotion costs it needed $500 million just to break even.
Though fans have called out for a sequel and Alden Ehrenreich had his contract extended for 2 more films,Star Warsmovies are currently on a hiatuswith Disney choosing to focus on TV instead. The firstStar WarsTV spin off,The Mandalorian, went on to become one of the most demanded streaming shows of 2019, and was nominated for a Best Dramatic Series Emmy. Another possible TV series rumored to be in development would see the return ofDonald Glover as Lando Calrissianin his own series.
Sadly there’s no firm details on any of these shows entering production. But with the huge success ofThe Mandalorian, it’s likely that Disney are keen to get the ball rolling on a new Disney+ exclusive series.
